A Taste Of My Life: Nigel Slater Learns A Lot From What Food You Eat…..

Chef, Nigel Slater, has revealed that he can tell a lot about a person by what food they like to eat.

Nigel’s new TV show features different celebrities sharing details about memorable meals they have enjoyed.

In his new series, which returns to BBC Two next week, Royle Family actress Liz Smith tells Nigel how she had to cook the same carrot and lentil soup for her children every day as she couldn’t afford anything else.

Nigel told MSN: “Many of the guests were around in the period after the war, when ingredients were limited.

“Their parents had lived through rationing, so there was still that way of looking at food – waste nothing, buy very cheap cuts of meat and other cheap ingredients. It’s very interesting to find that about, especially from people who are now successful.

“I always ask my guests what a luxury might be to them, and the people who had a tough start will invariably say things like steak, which we now almost take for granted. Those stories are an excellent barometer of how our tastes – and our ability to get food – have changed.”

A Taste Of My Life returns to BBC Two on Monday the 26th May.
