A Who’s Who Guide To Characters In Journeyman

Journeyman is a gritty new drama that features time-travelling journalist Dan Vasser. Vasser’s already fragile marriage is put under immense strain when uncontrollable time shifts start happening - he starts disappearing without warning, leaving friends and family thinking he’s in trouble of some kind.

To cap it all off, the extremely hot Fiance he presumed was dead reappears in his past, and happily, she’s a time traveller too!

If you’re new to Journeyman, here’s the Unreality Primetime guide to the main characters in Journeyman.

Dan Vasser

.

Chiseled Dan is a star hack at the San Francisco Register, is married with one child and is a recovering gambleholic. Oh, did we mention that he randomly time travels to places where he has to save lives, kicks asses and take names? Well, he does.

And he does it all with a surly demeanour.

When Dan discovers he has the Quantum Leap-esque ability to change the past for individuals, it plays havoc with his home life. His wife becomes distrustful, his brother thinks he’s gambling again, and his son thinks he’s some kind of warlock (probably).

There’s another problem. In a jaunt to the past, Dan discovers his Fiance - Livia - didn’t die in a plane crash after all. She’s a time traveller too, just like him! Thing is, she’s still extremely hot. Is it still an affair if you travel back to before you were married? Hmmm.

Katie Vasser

.

Katie has been married to Dan for seven years, just long enough for the itch to start. But before she and Dan were an item, she was hot and heavy with his brother, Jack. We think Katie may have always had a thing for Dan, even when he was with Livia.

Anyway, before becoming a wife and mother, Katie was a well-known local newsreader. During the first series of Journeyman, she decides to return to work, against Dan’s wishes.

We know that her marriage to Dan has been on the rocks, but we don’t know why. However, Dan’s time travelling escapades push her suspicions to the limits and she almost throws him out. Luckily, Dan took her wedding ring to the past on one trip and cunningly buried it under their patio before they ever owned the house. He digs it up and shows her the ring (which she was wearing a few days before), thus proving he can time travel. Yay!

Jack Vasser

.

Oh, poor Jack’s got such a chip on his shoulder. He really takes sibling rivalry to the next level.

Problem is, Jack’s a tough ‘frisco cop, and when Dan starts acting suspicious, Jack decides to probe into his finances to see if his gambling addiction has flared up again.

Oh, and since Jack previously dated Dan’s wife, Katie, there’s a bit of tension in that department too. Mostly because Jack still has a secret love for Katie.

Livia Beale

Livia Beale - Journeyman

Livia is an enigmatic character. She was Dan’s finance back in the late 90’s, but was believed to have died in a plane crash. It was due to her death that Katie comforted Dan and the two became a couple.

However, Livia’s actually a time traveller as well and was travelling long before she met Dan. For some reason the two are reunited in time (by the forces controlling their time jumps?) and clearly still have affection for each other. Livia is shocked to discover Dan is now married to Jack’s former girlfriend, and appears hurt when she discovers this.

Livia’s purpose in the show seems to be to help Dan through his assignments in time, although sometimes their relationship can appear warmer than Dan and Katie’s.

Livia’s biggest secret is that while Dan travels from the future, she travels from the past. She originated in the 1940’s and during the series we see her agreeing to get engaged to a man she’s seeing in that time period.

The character is played by the smokin’ hot Moon Bloodgood, surely the Guinness World Record holder for most O’s in a name ever.

Hugh Skillen

.

Nicknamed The Hulk by his family, no doubt due to his rugged good looks, Hugh Skillen is the editor of the San Francisco Register and a good friend of Dan’s.

Though he’s not integral to every episode, we know that Hugh lost his sister in the San Francisco earthquake, and that he’s fighting against the management of the newspaper. They want to cut staff on the paper, and are especially gunning for Dan’s job. We discover that Dan is one of the San Francisco Register’s star writers and that he is paid handsomely for his work.

Zack Vasser

.

Zach Vasser is what happened to prompt Dan and Katie into getting married. Yup, Dan knocked Katie up, then immediately proposed to make an honest woman of her. How absolutely old-school of him…

Anyway, Zach discovers his father’s secret when he witnesses him disappearing in his bedroom. He’s the only person we know of to actually see Dan time travel.

The effects of Dan’s spontaneous disappearances are that the two can’t be alone together - on one occassion, Dan disappears leaving Zach alone at a market. Luckily, Katie guesses what’s happened and she, Jack and Jack’s girlfriend track Zach down.
