Filming has just begun on a sequel to Lynda La Plante’s ratings winning drama Above Suspicion, starring Kelly Reilly and Ciarán Hinds for ITV1.
The two part drama, Above Suspicion: The Red Dahlia, is adapted by award winning writer Lynda La Plante from her successful second novel about rookie detective, Anna Travis. It is produced by La Plante Productions.
Above Suspicion, which won audiences of more than seven million, introduced young and ambitious DC Anna Travis, who is fast-tracking her way through the ranks, eager to prove herself to be as successful as her late father.
Kelly Reilly (He Kills Coppers, Joe’s Palace, Eden Lake, Mrs Henderson Presents) returns to the role of Anna Travis. Acclaimed actor Ciarán Hinds (There Will Be Blood, Margot at the Wedding, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Prime Suspect) stars as her boss, the volatile Detective Chief Inspector James Langton.
They are joined by Shaun Dingwall as Detective Inspector Mike Lewis, Celyn Jones as Detective Sergeant Paul Barolli, Michelle Holmes as Detective Constable Barbara Maddox and Amanda Lawrence as Detective Constable Joan Faukland.
Guest stars in the new series include Simon Williams, Sylvia Syms, Holliday Grainger, Edward Bennett and Hannah Murray.
Director of Drama Laura Mackie says:
“Above Suspicion was one of the highlights of the Winter Season on ITV1 and I’m delighted that Lynda is bringing Anna Travis back for another gripping investigation”.
Lynda La Plante says:
“A copy cat killing of such horror brings DC Travis and DCI Langton back together after Travis has accomplished work on 3 further cases. The response to Above Suspicion mirrored the response to the first series of Prime Suspect which is very, very exciting. To be making the second one now is a joy and it’s marvellous to have had the backing of Laura Mackie and Peter Fincham at ITV1 from day one.”
