The countdown really is on for Queen and Adam Lambert kicking off their tour of America and then heading across the water to Australia and it’s all very exciting for fans, who are expecting the shows to be among the “ best of the summer“!
While Adam will be fronting the band vocally he opened up about stepping into the late Freddie Mercury’s shoes and admitted that there is a lot of pressure of him to live up to the idol’s reputation.
Speaking to Byron Cooke from Music Geek, Lambert revealed that he can’t wait to head off to Australia:”I’m so excited, and when they added Australia to our tour… it was like the icing on the cake.”
He added that he believes that it will bring together a different fan base adding that “it’ll be good” and “refreshing for everybody”.
Lambert also expressed his excitement for being able to sing for those “die-hard Queen fans” among us and he’s hoping they welcome him into the lineup.
He continued: “It feels really, really good. There’s a lot of joy.”
The ‘For Your Entertainment’ star was asked if taking on songs fronted by Freddie Mercury was a daunting process.”It’s never going to be the same without Freddie,” he said.
Adam continued: “Freddie Mercury is a one of a kind icon, once in a lifetime voice – he’s one of my heroes. I think he’s absolutely brilliant. I don’t go on stage thinking, ‘Oh, I’m going to compete with that’.”
The powerhouse also confessed that he doesn’t plan on replacing Freddie, but does want to pay his respects to him as a vocalist and songwriter and to bring his amazing songs to life again.
He concluded: “Any nay-sayers out there that are boo-hooing it, don’t come! But you’re going to miss out on a great show.”
