All The Small Things – BBC One Tues 31 March 9pm

Sarah Lancashire, Neil Pearson, Sarah Alexander and Richard Fleeshman star in Debbie Horsfield’s new, uplifting, six-part musical drama series. The series begins as Michael and Esther Caddick celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary among friends from their beloved choir. But nothing can prepare them for the changes to their lives that are on the horizon.

The beautiful and beguiling Layla has arrived in town and, before long, has infiltrated the choir. Michael soon appoints her as soloist – a position usually occupied by his wife, Esther – and it becomes clear they are falling for each other.

Bewitched by Layla’s charm, Michael tells Esther it’s time for both of them to think long and hard about how they should spend the rest of their lives, and he takes the decision to move out of the family home.

Esther, in shock at the collapse of her marriage, feels forced to resign from the choir. With Esther gone, Layla persuades Michael that it’s time to raise standards – and a new regime begins which meets with a mixed response.

Esther only starts to emerge from the shock of her marriage breakdown when her sons come to blows over their band. Much to the annoyance of youngest son Fred, Esther’s musically gifted eldest son, Kyle, finds it difficult to integrate. Yet he finds solace in singing and playing music.

Inspired by Kyle, Esther encourages the band and the rejected members of her former choir to showcase their talents at the upcoming Music Festival – in direct competition with her estranged husband’s choir.

At the Music Festival, the choirs are introduced to another new member of the community, the young and unlikely looking curate, Jake, who promises to shake up the old order.

I loved this programe.. All the smll things….Every episode delivered . Great cast. Brilliant writing that exposed the characters personalities and I felt I was taking the same emotional journies that they were taking. When the series ended I felt I was saying goodbye to friends,,,, if there is a second series and its as well written,,,,,, yippeeeeeee I can’t wait.

  5. christinecummings says:

How refreshing it has been to watch the truly enjoyable ‘All the Small Things’.
Here was a series with a great script, fine acting, and no bad language.
The attention to detail – even right down to the title- a reminder that all of us are not perfect- has given me hope that there are still good writers out there ,with talent, that many of us license fee payers value.

  6. Caroline says:

Absolutely loved it. I hardly watch any tv, and I was completely hooked. Just a little bit gutted by the ending… But hopefully they’ll do a second series and get that right for me!

  7. Just J says:

As everyones already said, this is a brilliant series … well done BBC and please, please, please say there’ll be a series 2!! The characters were superb and i couldn’t even help feeling a little sorry for Layla towards the end.

  8. jan says:

what a great show missing it already like you guys i hope the bbc do the right thing and series two here we come
well acted and well done to all the actors who played in it

  9. Kate says:

So sad that it’s ended :( ! Hoping there’s a second series! When Jake was talking about the avalanche,it would take a heart of stone not to be moved by that, I was nearly in tears! And the dialogue between Bryan Dick and Neil Pearson is the funniest thing in the whole series! But my favourite line was “On the plus side, the coffee has improved”. And it turns out that Layla actually has a heart as she voted for Jake to stay. Love this show completly! There’s not enough nice light-hearted shows like this on TV. Brilliant performances from all.

  10. mayceej says:

absolutely loved this series, please bbc let there be another one. best thing on tv.

  11. Shaz says:

Absolutely loved the series, hope they commission a second. My Tuesday nights will not be the same again! Richard Fleeshman deserves an award for the way he played Kyle. First time I’ve ever seen Bryan Dick and I’m hooked – gorgeous or what?! If Esther doesn’t want him she can send him my way!! Hoping they will release a CD as I will definitely buy it, in the meantime constantly re-watching my recordings (so glad I decided not to delete them)!

  12. Annie says:

It was fabulous, uplifting and humorous. Please make a second series x

  13. Denise says:

What fabulous television. Fantastic cast, acting, writing, storyline – this series had it all.

And just about everyone we know has watched and enjoyed it – young and old – I cannot believe that the BBC will not commission another series. Com on, BBC., do the right thing for once!

  14. sasha says:

Esther and Jake were so good together!!! I can’t believe the ending! It was rubbish! There BETTER be another series!!!!!!!

  15. Caroline says:

    I totally agree with Sasha.
I didn’t watch the series but Sasha is one of my BEST friends so what ever she says has to be true!

  16. Lisa says:

semi good news it think, just read an interview with the guy that plays Fred, he said he has already signed for a second series and it just needs to be commissioned. At least we know the cast and writers have thought about it, now all we need is the BBC!!

  17. Barbara says:

I’m in agreement with everyone … completely enjoyed All The Small Things. The chemistry between all the actors, the music, the storyline. Will look forward to a second series. And please keep the ‘fire burning’ between Jake and Esther. Thanks for a lovely show BBC.

  18. Caroline says:

I am a magical matchmaker and I predict that Esther’s destiny is to be with Jake.
They were made for each other!

  20. zoe says:

    all the small things fans!

Despite delivering all this, and averaging at well over four million viewers per episode – the BBC have decided NOT to make a second series of this.
We’ll never know if Kyle and Grace get married! We’ll have to live with repeats forever!!

Ben Stephenson – Head of Drama Commissioning and Jay Hunt – Controller of BBC One are the only ones who change that decision now.

If enough people submit a message to them – via the following link, the BBC will at very least have to reconsider making more of this truly brilliant programme!

  23. Nice one guys! We decide what we want to watch on our TVs NOT THEM! It’s their job to make it for us!

Am 68 years old and really enjoyed All The Small Things. Miss it on Tuesday evenings.
As christinecummings said it was a great script with fine acting (and singing) and no
bad language for a change!! Hope Debbie Horsfield manages to persuade the BBC to commission
a second series – come on BBC – four million viewers is pretty good viewing figures.

  25. zoe says:

  27. MyFirstHello says:

Hey everyone on the forum. We subscribe to this and are thrilled that people watched the show and are still talking about it.

We still are yet to convince the BBC to commission a series two, and firmly believe that people power is our only valid option. So if you feel that you would like a second series, PLEASE just send them a quick mail and then your opinion has been registered

Use the form at the bottom of this web page!

    Thanks to everyone :)

  28. Gemma says:

    Hi everyone,

I have decided to start up a petition to try and get the BBC to realise how popular All The Small Things is, and how it would be silly not to commission a second series. If you would like a second series, or a sound track at least, please please please sign the petition.

I think we will need to fight firm from every angle to make them listen to us!

    The petition is here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/keep-all-the-small-things-going

    Thanks! :D

    Gem xxx

  29. sasha says:

GREAT petition!!!! The BBC are SURE to commission another series now!!!!!
