While Sky1’s Gladiators take a well earned rest, we go stateside to feel the force of the all new American Gladiators. They’re back; bigger, stronger and ready to put the contenders through their paces in the ultimate physical challenge. In tests of strength, agility and endurance only the strongest will survive.

Hosted by Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali, daughter of boxing legend Mohammed, 24 contenders will be put through their paces by the new generation of Gladiators in an effort to be crowned series champion.

The contenders will face four gruelling events before going head to head in the most fearsome TV challenge - the eliminator. Competition will be fierce as they battle it out for $100,000 and a brand new car. But not only that, the eventual series winners will win the privilege of becoming Gladiators themselves in season two.

Making sure that events run smoothly and that there are no under hand tactics, the show will be refereed by Al Kaplon, a former American League umpire.

But has anyone got what it takes to defeat the mighty Gladiators?

The all new generation of American Gladiators are:

* Crush (Gina Carano). Smashes opponents into submission. Despite her girl-next-door looks, she’s a powerful, fierce opponent.
* Fury (Jamie Kovac). Takes ferocity to a whole new level, full of raw aggression she is the epitome of a female Gladiator.
* Hellga (Robin Coleman). Hits with the force of Thor’s hammer, sensible opponents run for cover rather than risk a Viking funeral.
* Justice (Justice Smith). 300 pounds of power, Justice will pursue any adversary to the ends of the earth.
* Mayhem (Romeo Williams). A storm of smouldering intensity and lightning-quick reflexes.
* Militia (Alex Castro). Targets his opponents with tactical precision. With an impressive arsenal of skills he is equipped and ready for anything.
* Siren (Valerie Waugaman). A force to be reckoned with, consider yourself warned when she is heard in the Gladiator Arena.
* Stealth (Tanji Johnson). Flies under the radar for a swift and unexpected attack, immensely strong and cool under pressure.
* Titan (Mike O’Hearn). With nearly godlike strength and skill, he is the ultimate warrior.
* Toa (Tanoai Reed). Has the strength of a warrior – he will never, ever show any mercy.
* Venom (Beth Horn). Stalks her prey with caution and strikes when it is least expected. There is no known antidote for Venom, who is lethal in any dose.
* Wolf (Don Yates). Able to smell fear and always going for the jugular, Wolf is 230-pounds of primal fury.
