Angela Bassett and Patti LuPone have been cast in the upcoming season of American Horror Story.
Filming for the forthcoming season of American Horror Story, titled “Coven” is set to begin shortly, and today comes the news of two brand new characters.
Unfortunately, no details of Bassett or LuPone’s characters have been released, so we’re none the wiser of how they will fit in with the plot and theme of the new season.
American Horror Story creator, Ryan Murphy broke the news via his official Twitter feed this afternoon.
He tweeted: “Two legends are joining the cast of American Horror Story: Coven – Oscar nominee Angela Bassett and Tony winner Patti LuPone!”
Gabourey Sidibe has also recently been cast in the new series, however, her role is currently being kept under wraps.
In a recent interview, she said: “I know nothing. The news just sort of came in two weeks ago… I have not seen a script at all. I know it shoots in New Orleans. I hope I don’t die”.
Details surrounding American Horror Story: Coven are being kept under lock and key, although, a few teasers have managed to leak.
The new season will star a “young and sexy Hollywood-actress type character”, to which she is a major “party girl”. However, her constant partying “is the gateway habit that leads to witchcraft”. It has not been confirmed who will play this said “party girl” character, whoever it may be will be appearing in as many as 9 episodes – if not more.
The saddest piece of news that has surfaced is the fact that Zachary Quinto won’t be returning – his crazy ways will be missed! In other casting news, Jessica Lange, Taissa Farmiga, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy and Sarah Paulson will all return in some way or another.
The new season will also feature a new love story, similar to that of Violet and Tate’s relationship in the first season and a female monster will play a part in vein of Rubber Man from season 1 and Bloody Face from season 2.
Filming is set to take place shortly in three different locations, one of which is New Orleans and one is said to have seen “true horror” in the past.
