US TV network, Showtime, has made an astounding move in deciding to air British drama, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl.
The show was a huge ratings hit for UK TV channel ITV2, and the astounding part, is not that Showtime found a British TV show that they liked, but rather that they decided not to ‘Americanise’ it!
Taken from the best-selling, real life diaries of The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl, this eight-part series is an eye-opening insight into the life of a high class escort. While the real Belle maintains her anonymity, the diaries based on her blog and first published in 2005, have been turned into fresh, sexy stories by a team of women writers led by Lucy Prebble.
The star of the show is former Doctor Who actress, Billie Piper, who has received much praise and acclaim for her interpretation of the role.
“When Chris Albrecht called me to take a look at this show we were intrigued,” says Showtime Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt. “Initially we thought we should make an American version of it, but we fell in love with the original episodes, were captivated by Billie Piper’s Belle, and decided to bring it to Showtime as is. American audiences will be transfixed by the series poignant, sexy, comedy meets drama elements and the series’ will fit in perfectly with our line-up of original programming.”
