Amy Winehouse has tragically died, aged just 27 years old.
The ‘Rehab’ hitmaker – who was renowned for her alcohol and drug habits – was found dead at 3.54 this afternoon at her London home, her death is being treated as unexplained by police who attended the scene.
The news broke just a few hours after a statement was posted on her official website, saying that she would be taking a break from performing for the forseeable future, so that family and friends could help her “return to her best”.
It said: “Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances. Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen.”
Amy was last seen in public when she performed in Belgrade last month, The appearance was shambolic and the English star was heckled by fans, who watched as she incoherently mumbled and threw microphones into the audience.
Before her ill fated comeback Amy had spent one week in London’s renowned rehab facility The Priory in order to get ready for the tour and planned to continue treatment as an outpatient.
She had reportedly stunned onlookers when she bought a small bottle of vodka from a shop in Southgate, north London, on her way rehab last month.
A source said: “She seemed out of it. She was stumbling about, slurring her words.
“I was shocked to see her buy vodka so early in the day, and even more shocked to see her knock it straight back.”
When the news broke, it was reported that Amy’s father Mitch had not yet been informed of her death, as he was travelling to America for a planned performance of his own.
