Coming to ITV1 this autumn, set amongst the icy glaciers and snowy landscape of Scandinavia. ‘71 Degrees North’ will mix spectacular experiences and pure danger with sheer entertainment and breathtaking scenery. Culminating inside the Arctic Circle, the programme will see tempers rise and temperatures plummet. ’71 Degrees North’ is a brand new, eight-part entertainment series for ITV1 and will broadcast in Autumn 2010.
Hosted by Kate Thornton and Gethin Jones, the programme sees 10 celebrities take on the adventure of a lifetime. They must battle it out on a journey to the North Cape, 71° North of the equator. Their destination lies at the northernmost point of mainland Europe and getting there will require every ounce of strength they have. Those taking up the challenge are: Joe Absolom, Susie Amy, Andrew Castle, Diarmuid Gavin, Gavin Henson, Konnie Huq, Michelle Mone, Marcus Patrick, Shane Richie and Lauren Socha.
Each episode features a specific challenge and the celebrities must cross hell and high water to complete them. Their journey will include mountain trekking, underwater ice swimming, climbing ice walls, skiing, reindeer herding and crossing vast expanses of snowy landscape
on dog sleigh.
The challenges will involve teamwork and the harsh conditions will see the teams bonding for survival. Along the way, friendships will form and adventures will be had but ultimately, the celebrities are battling it out for themselves. Viewers will get to know some of Britain’s best loved stars, see how they deal with the immense pressure of arctic conditions and watch them embark on the experience of a lifetime.
ITV’s Commissioner of Entertainment Layla Smith says: “Taking part in 71DN isn’t for the faint hearted. Watching the 10 stars face the toughest
challenge of their lives will be both awe inspiring and entertaining – rather them than me!”
