Musical genius Andrew Lloyd Webber has admitted to planting an actress in Channel 4 soap, Hollyoaks, after deciding that she would be his next Maria.
For the last three months Hollyoaks viewers have watced Summer Shaw, played by Bonnie Langford’s niece Summer Strallen, pursue her dream of West End stardom. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber will even make a cameo appearance on the show when he ‘discovers’ her.
Although the idea for the plant wasn’t Lloyd Webber’s he admitted that he was drawn to do it as it was original and had never been tried before.
He states: “I thought: ‘Do you know what, it’s never been done before and it’s funny.”
In reality, Strallen was awarded thew role of Maria, to replace Connie Fisher six months ago. She has previously starred in Cats, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Guys And Dolls.
