‘Pitch Perfect’ is a musical comedy movie which featured an all star cast including Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow and many more.
The movie followed two rival groups ‘The Barden Bellas’ and ‘The Treblemakers’ as they compete to become the best group at the a cappella national competition.
One of the main highlights of the movie was when Anna Kendrick’s character Beca auditions to become a ‘Barden Bella’.
While she missed out on the main auditions she performed the ‘cups song’ which following the release of the movie went viral on the internet with people doing their own versions.
What seems to be the official video on YouTube, which shows Anna Kendrick and ‘restaurant customers’ tapping and clapping cups has attracted over 52 million hits on YouTube.
Now it appears that the ‘Cups (When I’m Gone)’ is being released independently as a single in the UK on October 28th much to the surprise of Anna Kendrick.
The track has already been released in the US and managed to enter the Top 10 and sold over 2 million copies.
Speaking to Vulture recently about the songs success Anna Kendrick said: “I am bewildered. I don’t even know what to say about it. ”
“The weirdest thing to me is that it’s out-positioned artists who are out there promoting their singles, as they should be – they’re musicians! And I’ve been making movies.”
“It’s bizarre to me that I’m off doing something else, and it’s happening on its own. It’s so cool. But it is absolutely bewildering.”
‘Pitch Perfect’ was released in cinemas in 2012 and onto DVD and Blu-ray on December 18th, 2012. The movie was met by positive ratings from critics and following that success a sequel has been planned and is due to be released in 2015.
