Anyone Bored With Stacey Slater’s Bi-Polar Story Yet?
I don’t know if my feelings on the current Eastenders storyline involving Stacey Slater says bad things about me as a person, or the show’s writers, but I just don’t care!
In true soap personality transplant style, Stacey’s new bi-polar status seems to have appeared out of nowhere. Sure, she was upset at losing Danielle but does one develop such a debilitating mental illness overnight, especially if they had never exhibited any signs of the disorder before?
I was watching the clip above and realised that the best thing about the plot, is the acting of Gillian Wright who plays Jean Slater. She is believable and convincing and I feel for her plight. Stacey Slater, in contrast, evokes no emotion in me and I am just waiting for the writers to send her to rehab where she will no doubt receive some miracle cure, return to the square completely ‘normal’ and remarry Bradley. Predictable!

Dont agree. I thought Stacys acting was very good,
Im not sure how quick bipolar comes on.
It must be very frightning for anyone to suffer something
and not understand whats happining. Im glad Eastenders
has bought this subject up again, because not enough of
us realise how bad it can get.
But Eastenders were already addressing the issue in a very believable manner with Jean Slater. I find Stacey’s development of the condition unconvincing and terribly boring!
yeah, but Jean already had it, now they are showing how it
can creep up on you, without you knowing or understanding
whats happining to you. (maybe) otherwise like you I would
want to know why they are bringing the subject up again.
yeah, i have first hand experience working with people who suffer from it and although Jean’s protrayal is very good, Stacy’s is just plain unbelievable, and this is not due to her acting abilities, i think it is poor script writing. This form of mental illness takes time to devop, hers came on fair tooo quick, and we are not seeing the manic high’s and depressing lows, we are seeing a manic Stacy alright but its more of an OCD, or schizophenria condition that she is protraying than bi-polar…
Hi John, I’m glad you said that. I also know people with Bi-polar and feel that Stacey’s development of the condition was poorly thought out and badly executed.
Lacey Turner is a good actress, but you can only work with the scripts you are given and hers seems of pretty low quality.

Hi Lisa, I’ve just read your comments about the current story line involving Stacey Slater’s bipolar condition. I’m just wondering how you would have portrayed her condition? I also wonder whether your bipolar friends are aware of how narrow minded you are?
Im not sure if I agree, I have recently been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder after having trouble for many years, but since September things have happened so quick for me, you can have the ups and downs of bipolar, but if untreated it can turn to phycosis and this is when people start to notice, I speak from first hand experience, like I say I had it but everyone just thought i was depressed, until it was too late and to sudden to do anything about it.
Im finding it hard to watch eastenders at the moment cause some of the stuff she is saying I can remember myself saying just last year.
I think there doing a fair job, and as long as its raising awarness for people with mental ill health issues then well done to them, its very hard for people to understand when they have not been in that situation them selves, people are extremly ignorant and I think that its great the they can do it on such a widely braodcast and watched programe.
Good post Carrieann…
Do you know what, I am 46 and have suffered Bi-polar NOS my entire life….do you realise what it is to have a mental illness and try to cope on a daily basis? I suspect you haven’t really lived much life yet, though you THINK you have. I find your comments trite and uninformed and particularly offensive. People with Bi-polar are very often very intellectual, clever and creative people and millions of them have achieved things in life which you are now benefiting from. I run my own business have a family and no one would suspect I was ill to the outside world. But sometimes suffering goes unseen and shows in strange ways, look at Michael Jackson and others, ask Robbie Williams, Winston Churchill, they’ve suffered with mental illness of one type or another and millions of others. To address a storyline such as this is of major importance, because for some unknown reason people FEAR mental illness and prefer to sweep it under the carpet, much the same as cancer was taboo not that many years ago. People who berate subjects which are uncomfortable, being drawn into the public arena and scoff, are the ones who are ignorant and fear the thought of it affecting THEM. You would be surprised how many people suffer from this illness, and I do mean SUFFER. The thing is….there ARE solutions and the Eastenders is trying to show, that when you ASK for help ALL things are treatable. Lacey Turner is acting this SO well, that it makes me want to cry to be able to identify with her portrayal. I don’t always like the storylines on Eastenders and yes they are at times boring, BUT this is one which will run because it is an important issue and whilst I don’t like being depressed by watching misery on TV and love a good laugh, Soaps are the perfect platform with which to get the point across, seeing as how the Government (another bunch of actors) can’t manage it. This World and particularly Great Britain has become a dysfunctional and nasty place to be for some people lately and it’s time people cared a bit more about their families and others and give a bit of happiness out instead of hostility and aggression, I think you’ll find THAT is a form of mental illness, the stabbings, the aggression the dysfunctional types on ‘Jeremy Kyle’! There are people out there who need help, so don’t be too quick to judge and be so prejudice, one day you or your loved ones may need help, more than you realise and when you ask for it, let’s hope that there will be help in place for you.
By the way that comment was to the person who wrote the original post ‘anyone bored with Stacey Slaters Bi-polar’
Na.. i guessed no one its really a cool story i liked the stacey slaters bi polar story.
Iv only seen her once this week on EE..I read somewhere
shes struggling doing the bi-polar bit.
Your blinkered attitude does very little to surprise me. You are just as typical as 95% of the population. Lets just hope mental illness never comes a knocking at your door hey? Just how dreadfully dull would that be?
just proves the ignorance of some people eh! that’s just the same as saying you ‘are bored with disabled people’ or ‘i’m bored with Phil’s deaf son’!! maybe you are bored of abused children and murderers too. yes how boring that this is a reality of life tut tut!
why do you think she didn’t show any signs before?!! of course she did!!…her reckless behaviour, her moods, her lust for life, her party animal side, her inappropriate affair with Max…ALL SIGNS. the heartbreaking thing with Bipolar is that the signs are not always that obvious, so the illness can go undiagnosed for years, until it may suddenly become apparent, due to a particular bad bout of stress triggering it off, making all symptoms worse.
As someone who has lived with Bipolar for thirty three years, I find Lacy Turner and this story line excellent, very convincing and touching. I can show no signs some days, God knows I have kept so much in for years and years trying to live a ‘normal’ life. But sometimes i just have crazy phases that come on all of a sudden, even out of the blue. i can change my mood from being happy and ‘normal’ to being cripplingly depressed every 10 minutes some days!
All these people that think they have the right to comment, should maybe get their facts straight first!!! it’s such a complicated and misunderstood mental illness, i have lived it first hand and am still learning about it all the time – so i honestly don’t know what makes people think they can pass such strong judgement when they have probably only ever read a page about it in a magazine once, or because they ‘know someone’ who is bipolar! not all bipolars are the same btw so you can’t really compare yr bipolar friends to stacey from eastenders LOL
anyway, it just goes to prove how great the BBC have been in spreading awareness of mental illness – maybe it will get to the right people, who are actually intelligent or compassionate enough to understand. for those who are thick or narrow minded…well at least you had the opportunity and privilege to try and open up your minds and learn something new about the human race, even though you weren’t clever enough to understand….maybe that means that YOU are the ones with mental problems!! LOL
WOW! Stacey was blinding last night, and so convincing.
She & the mum Jean deserve an award for last night performance.
Ps..all these people do have a right to comment!
I dont see anyone disagreeing, with what you have said
Cessie.
hi guys does stacey return i heard it was afecting her in real life is tht true cheers ppl
No. She has played an amazing part. My sister was diagnosed with schizophrenia and i no what i have seen, the way she plays it is amazing. The attitude to mental health in England isn’t good enough. She has shown people a lot about Bi-polar its effects to the person with the illness and the family.
In my opinion people need to open their eyes and start seeing that mental health effects more people then you think.
