According to Official Charts Company sales data this week Arctic Monkeys could be heading towards taking the title for the fastest selling album of 2013 with ‘AM’.
Since the track went on sale on Monday it has sold over 97,000 copies so far in the UK.
If sales of ‘AM’ continue into the weekend at the rate they’re currently going the band could overtake current record holders Daft Punk whose album ‘Random Access Memories’ sold more than 165,000 copies in its first week on sale in May.
Looking elsewhere at the Official Albums Chart Top 5 this week are indie pop trio London Grammar who look set to follow on from the success of their Top 40 singles ‘Wasting My Young Years’ and ‘Strong’.
Their debut album ‘If You Wait’ currently sits at Number (2).
Heading for their fourth Top 10 album this Sunday are Goldfrapp with ‘Tales Of Us’ sits at Number (3) while last weeks top of the charts The 1975 (above) fall three places into Number (4) with their self titled debut album.
The Top 5 this week is completed by The Strypes debut album ‘Snapshot’ which is at Number (5).
Looking at new entries in the Official Albums Chart this week other than the Arctic Monkeys, London Grammar, Goldfrapp and The Strypes there are right more new entries which you can see below.
Abel Tesfaye AKA The Weeknd and ‘Kiss Land’ are at Number (7) which is the follow up to last years ‘Trilogy’ album.
Janelle Monae (pictured below) is also heading for the Top 10 this week with her album ‘The Electric Lady’ which is at Number (9).
The soundtrack for ‘Doctor Who Series 7’ by Murray Gold is currently at Number (13) and Rod Stewart’s ‘Rarities’ is at Number (15).
Entering at Number (17) this week is The Clash’s ‘The Clash Hits Back’ – their new Best Of Collection.
Jazz vocalist Gregory Porter is set to score his second Top 40 album in the UK this Sunday with ‘Liquid Spirit’. ‘MDNA World Tour’ which is Madonna’s new live album enters at Number (37).
Finally, The Clash’s ‘Sound System’ box set is at Number (38) and that completes the new entries for this week.
