It’s Lady Diana Spencer’s wedding, and DCI Gene Hunt is determined that nothing is going to ruin her big day, as 80s drama Ashes To Ashes continues.

When a family’s protest against the London Docklands re-development becomes increasingly volatile, and a dog falls victim to an explosion in the same area, Gene is hell bent on keeping a lid on the situation – at least, until Lady Diana walks down the aisle.

A threat of more trouble comes from the London Liberation Front, leading Gene and feisty colleague DI Alex Drake to believe that Thatcherite playboy Danny Moore’s life is in danger. Danny soon charms Alex, much to Gene’s distaste, and before he knows it, she’s whisked off for a drive in his very cool DeLorean car.

Their trip comes to a terrifying end, leaving Alex in no fit state to work, so Gene assigns her to look after Danny while he and long-term sidekick, Ray, crack on with the case.

In need of some light relief, Alex challenges Danny to surprise her on a night out. Consequently, when they arrive at the legendary Blitz Club and bump into the usually timid Chris, made over like a New Romantic, and his date, a stunning-looking “Shaz”, she realises that maybe this world really can surprise her after all.

Much to Gene’s annoyance, Alex has called her mother, high-profile lawyer and enemy of the police, Caroline Price, to defend the suspected bomber. Tensions rise as both Alex and Caroline are determined they are right, leaving Alex unsure as to whether her mother is the woman she always thought she was.
