The BBC is currently in discussions to renew its contract for the Australian Soap Opera, neighbours.
Neighbours has aired daily on BBC One for 21 years, but the BBC have threatened to axe the show after what it calls greedy demands from the shows owners, Freemantle Media.
Currently the BBC pay £25,000 per episode of neighbours, but it has been reported that Freemantle want to up that price to £70,000.
BBC director of acquisitions George McGhee told Broadcast magazine: “If a deal is not reached in the very, very near future, we will withdraw the money and move it elsewhere.
“We’ve made a good offer which is about to be withdrawn.”
That would leave the way open for ITV or Channel Five to bid for the show.
I don’t mind who gets it, as long as it stays on the air….what would I do without my daily fix of Ramsay street? It doesn’t bear thinking about!
