BBC newsreaders Fiona Bruce and Sophie Raworth In Abba Catsuits
BBC newsreaders Fiona Bruce and Sophie Raworth donned catsuits and platform shoes for their roles as Abba singers Agnetha and Frida for Friday’s Children In Need fundraiser.
They’ll be re-enacting a scene from Mamma Mia!, the hit West End musical that features Abba hits and was made into a blockbusting movie starring Meryl Streep, Julie Walters and Pierce Brosnan.
Fiona told the Daily Mail, “I went to see the film with my seven-year-old daughter Mia and we absolutely loved it. For our television tribute, I’m probably playing the Meryl Streep role. We will also have three senior newsmen taking part and some dancers from the West End show. We didn’t set out to look like the two Abba women, but I’m flattered that anyone would think I resembled Frida. I was a great Abba fan and she was probably my favourite.”
It ‘s become a Children In Need tradition for the BBC’s news teams to stage a lavish song-and-dance show and last year, Fiona wore black fishnets and a revealing halterneck top for her role as ‘Fifi LaBruce’ from the musical Chicago.
