He’s the King of the boxing ring but take his feet off the ground and Amir Khan is a bag of nerves.
When Beat The Star host Vernon Kay explains to Amir and his opponent Dan Ivey they must climb then stand on top of a 10 metre high telegraph pole it comes a bit of a blow to Amir. “Stand on that for 30 seconds? I’d rather do 12 rounds with Mike Tyson!”.
Endeavoured to overcome his fear of heights he may have scampered up the pole but clung to the top rung for 5 minutes too terrified to move.
He says “Climbing up it was easy, but when we got right to the top and looked down, I think I froze… I tried to go a little higher, but you forget you’ve got the harness on.”
Was it what you expected?
“It was a lot harder. I thought it was going to be a walk in the park but they’ve got some hard events there. It made me think and made me push a bit more.”
Preparing for a fight takes months, he took part in Beat the Star three days after securing his 17th boxing victory and this time he prepared with a fish and chip supper!
Beat The Star launches Tomorrow at 6:45pm - ITV1
