Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch in first trailer for new movie The Fifth Estate!

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has made his début as charismatic Julian Assange in his new movie, The Fifth Estate.

The Fifth Estate tells the story of Assange, the Wikileaks editor-in-chief and founder, with Daniel Brühl playing the former spokesperson of the website Daniel Domscheit-Berg.

In the trailer Cumberbatch can be seen being chased by men with guns with the FBI exclaiming “we need to crush these guys.”
Sporting a new, long blonde hairstyle to match his part, Cumberbatch can also be seen in the trailer, which you can see for yourself below, partying as well as undressing both women, and computer systems with his hands as his character sets up the infamous international, online, non-profit organisation which publishes secret information, news leaks, and classified media from anonymous sources.

The main plot of the film is said to be based in part on Domscheit-Berg’s book Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange and the World’s Most Dangerous Website, as well as WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy by British journalists David Leigh and Luke Harding.

Directed by Bill Condon with a screenplay by Josh Singer, The Fifth Estate is co-produced by DreamWorks and Participant Media and is due to be released on October 11, 2013, by DreamWorks through Disney’s Touchstone distribution label and Mister Smith Entertainment worldwide.

Starring alongside Cumberbatch in the film are Laura Linney, Stanley Tucci, Dan Stevens and Alicia Vikander, David Thewlis and The Thick of It’s Peter Capaldi portraying The Guardian’s editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger.

The much-anticipated film has not been supported by the real Julian Assange, who has previously declared it a ‘propaganda attack’.
