Benedict Cumberbatch thinks like Sherlock Holmes!

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has told the Daily Star that since playing the Victorian sleuth, he’s begun to think like his character.

Benedict, who’s recently revealed that he’s to star in a new Star Trek movie – said, “Our daily lives are so mundane, we get taken over by what is immediately in front of us and we don’t see beyond that.

“As Holmes keeps on saying, we don’t ‘observe’, we ‘see’ things.

“I think if you look at the example of Holmes, or at least what I have learnt from playing him, you find extraordinary depth in the smallest detail.

“So I sit on trains and I think: ‘Is that mud on the bottom of a boot? I wonder where he has been. That collar looks a little bit frayed – I wonder whether he has been travelling for a while or has he forgotten his washing?’

“You do try to piece together personal stories from bits of information.”

However, Benedict – who’s also starred in Heartbeat, Tipping the Velvet, Spooks and Silent Witness – hasn’t yet embraced his alter-ego’s dress sense.

He said, “I’ve been quite a late developer on the clothes front, but I’ve suddenly realised it is one of life’s joys.”

But Benedict – whose full name is Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch – reckons that his Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman is “a man who knows his threads.”

He said, He’s a very natty dresser. He gets stuff made and is always coming in with new pairs of shoes so I’ve been watching his clobber.”

Sherlock continues on Sunday, January 15th at 9pm on BBC1.
