Big Fat Gypsy Weddings star Santana Casey says Kate Middleton is her idol

In last week’s episode of Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, we met 16 year old Santana Casey, who celebrated her Sweet Sixteen with a lavish party at a restaurant…

And although Santana embraces much of the traveller customs and ideologies, for her, Kate Middleton is a fashion icon, and when she gets married, Santana plans a dress that’s similar to the one Kate wore when she married Prince William last year.

Speaking to the Sun’s TV Biz, Santana said, “I’d like an exact copy of Kate Middleton’s wedding dress.

“It was so plain and traditional, but the lace made it really rich-looking and the train was lovely.

“She’s an inspiration to young girls in our community because she’s very pure and modest and that’s how we strive to be…

“Some of the girls wear big Jordan-style dresses but we’re not all like that. If it’s what they like then that’s nice, but I’m just not into all the bling…

“It’s a bit over the top for me.

“Kate’s dress was still beautiful and special, but very modest too.”

And Santana went on to say that while some traveller girls wear very little – but remain virtuous – she prefers a more modest approach to her wardrobe.

She said, “I don’t wear dresses very much because you always have to watch yourself and the way you sit to be modest. In shorts and jeans, you can run around more.

“If I do wear a dress, I wear shorts underneath in case I fall over or something, otherwise it’s shameful.

“When a travelling girl goes out, she has to be perfect — spray tan, nails, eyelashes. And most of the time, I can’t be bothered. I’d rather stay at home.

“I’d love to get eyelash implants and a Hollywood smile one day though.”

And of her social life, Santana said, “I do have friends outside the community and I talk to them if I see them while I’m out.

“But I don’t really arrange to meet them because they don’t like to do the things we like to do.

“We just like to sit there and chat. But they sometimes like to get drunk and we’re not allowed to drink until we get married.

“And even when I do get married, I don’t want to drink. It’s horrible!”
