Biggest Loser fitness trainer Angie Dowds feared dead after suicide bid

Angie Dowds, who was the fitness trainer on hit diet show The Biggest Loser, has reportedly killed herself by jumping off the cliffs at notorious suicide spot, Beachy Head.

Angie, who has appeared on the show since 2005 alongside presenter Davina McCall, had recently split from long-term girlfriend Corrie Preece, and it’s thought she was suffering depression.

She also had a history of problems with drink and drugs.

Last night, police told The Sun that the body of a 42 year old woman had been found at the foot of the cliffs, but they didn’t confirm definitively that it was Angie.

A spokesman said, “Just after 4.30pm on Sunday members of the public reported that a woman was seen to jump or fall from the top of cliffs at Beachy Head.

“Coastguards found the body of a woman at the foot of the cliffs about an hour later.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and it is believed that the body may be that of a 42-year-old from London.”

The paper adds, “A woman called Natalie Dowds, saying she is Angie’s younger sister, last night posted on the star’s Facebook page: ‘My big sis rest with the angels rip xxxxx’.”

Canadian born Angie has suffered with depression and substance abuse since she was 13.

She once said of her problems, “I was a victim and I had every reason in the world to be.”

In 2006, Angie was voted Personal Trainer of the Year at the International Fitness Showcase Awards, but scandal was to follow when it transpired she’d told Biggest Loser contestants to “cheat” by eating just nuts and apples before their weigh-in.

However, she later returned to the show, and said, “It’s not The Biggest Loser way and I made a bad choice. My competitiveness had taken over.

“My head was just, ‘Go to win’.”

Last April, Angie gave a press interview in which she said, “Never give up. I try to live by that motto. I very nearly did once. I really hope I never do again.”

A show insider said last night, “We have been made aware of the incident.

“Everyone involved in The Biggest Loser is devastated by what appears to have happened.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to her family and friends at this time.”

How very, very sad. Here’s a clip of Angie working out…
