Billie Piper is set to return to our TV screens this week, starring in new BBC drama True Love.
The former Doctor Who actress could be about to cause some measure of controversy once more – but then again she’s used to it after her time on Secret Diary Of A Call Girl – as in one of the episodes, she’ll be engaging in a lesbian kiss with her co-star Kaya Scodelario.
It’s not the lesbian aspect of the kiss that will be controversial of course, but the fact that Piper’s character will be a teacher and she’ll be locking lips with one of her teenage pupils.
Billie’s episode of the semi improvised drama will be set in Margate in Kent and the mum of two will take on the role of a young teacher, trapped in an unhappy marriage, who ends up embroiled in a passionate affair with one of her students.
The pair will be seen kissing and sharing a bed and insiders have told The Mirror that BBC bosses are expecting the get some sort of kick back from prudish viewers, over the scenes.
‘This storyline will get some criticism,’ a source told the newspaper, ‘but it’s been well-researched and is similar to real-life events.’
David Tennant will also star in an earlier episode of the series, which launches on BBC one tomorrow night. In the first installment, the former Doctor Who star will play a new dad, whose marriage is thrown into chaos, when he meets his first love again.
The dad of one recently admitted that he is glad he wasn’t typecast after leaving the cult sci fi show in 2010, and spoke about his excitement over his upcoming projects.
Billie will pop up in the third episode, due to air on Tuesday at 10:35pm.
