With the entire nation still embracing the return of one of the country’s bets loved 90’s sitcoms, it has been revealed that an old face will be returning to re-join the cast!

Birds of a Feather dominated the sitcom world during its BBC reign from 1989 until 1998, as we watched the hilarious antics of sisters Sharon (Pauline Quirke) and Tracey (Linda Robson) as they made their way through Essex life whilst their husbands served time for armed robbery.

So successful was the show that a stage production was produced and shown to sell out audience after it came off air until, last year, ITV picked up the show for a comeback series.

With all three main cast members – Quirke, Robson and Lesley Joseph who played the sisters promiscuous neighbour Dorien Green, returning for the series the country has fallen back in love with the show since its New Year premier.

And now it would seem that we can expect more faces from the past as Chris Cardy, who was the original actor to play Sharon’s jail-bird husband Chris Theodopolopodous in 1989, will be paying the girls a visit next month.

In the one-off episode Chris will turn up in Chigwell seeking a quick divorce from Sharon so that he can marry his new girlfriend Angie, but it is pretty clear from the off that there is more than meets the eye to his return.

Could this mean a full return for the very memorable character? Well, with the show being so well received we think Cardy would be a fool not to if asked.

Meanwhile Linda Robson has opened up about the reasons behind jumping from BBC to ITV for the new series, explaining in a recent interview:

“[The BBC] offered a half-hour Christmas special and ITV promised eight episodes, so funnily enough we decided to go for the eight episodes.”

Birds of a Feather continues on Thursday on ITV at 8.30pm, with Cardy’s return to the show due to be broadcast on February 6 – Watch a clip of the new series below:
