And here we have it our final preview looking at the televisual treats that Boxing Day has to offer.
That Dog Can Dance! (ITV1, 8pm)
A Simon Cowell-produced talent show with a difference as this one looks for the most talented dogs in the country. The judging panel consists of dog lovers Bill Bailey and Sharon Osbourne as well as Britain’s Got Talent winner Ashleigh Butler who will also be performing with Pudsey later in the show.
Blackpool: Big Night Out (BBC2, 8pm)
A look at the Northern seaside town which made a star of many a British entertainer, most notably Morecambe and Wise, and attracted such stars as Frank Sinatra. This documentary looks at the town through the eyes of those who have graced it stages and asks why it has such an enduring legacy.
Spy (Sky One, 8pm)
A festive special for Sky’s silliest sitcom with the obnoxious Marcus up for a role in a Christmas musical in which even his dad Tim fails to wins a part. Back at MI5 Tim’s affair with Caitlin is discovered which means a lot of drawn guns and home truths being bought to light.
The Royal Institution Christmas Lectures (BBC4, 8pm)
As always Christmas is a time for science on the BBC as Dr Peter Wothers unlocks the mysteries of the elements of air, water and Earth presenting illuminating experiments to capture the minds of any young people who may be watching.
Miranda (BBC1, 9pm)
The new series of Miranda Hart’s sitcom begins with this Christmas special in which Penny threatens to cancel Christmas if her daughter doesn’t sort her life out which sees Miranda chaotically attempt a Detox and try to get a proper job after the joke shop folds.
Doors Open (ITV1, 9pm)
Based on the novel by Ian McEwan this one-off drama stars Stephen Fry and Douglas Henshall as two unlikely robbers who attempt to steal paintings from a famous Edinburgh gallery. The drama co-stars Lenora Crichlow as Henshall’s love interest and is the perfect light drama for anyone still digesting their turkey from the day before.
The Girl (BBC2, 9pm)
Something a bit darker can be found in this biopic of Alfred Hitchcock following his obsession with leading lady Tippi Hedren. Toby Jones takes on the role of the great director as he falls under the spell of Sienna Miller’s Hedren which is an infatuation which would eventually cost both their careers. Expect great performances from the cast, which also includes Imelda Staunton and Penelope Wilton, and excellent writing from Gwyneth Hughes.
Most Shocking Celebrity Moments of 2012 (Channel 5, 10pm)
If you’re a fan of this very website then you must love your celebrity culture and if so why not indulge in three hours of the year’s most shocking events in the world of the famous. Events covered include Kristen Stewart’s affair, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ divorce and of course The X-Factor’s Rylan Clark.
