Britain’s Youngest Brides, ITV

Thursday 9 August 2007 9:00pm - 10:00pm on ITV1.

Marriage in Britain is now at its lowest level since records began. Last year just over 4,000 teenage girls married but back in 1970 there were over 112,100 teenage brides.

Just 250,000 British women will get married this year and TV1’s Britain’s Youngest Brides meets five of those who have decided to tie the knot before they reach their twenties.

Eighteen-year-old Catrina decided to have a wedding dress no-one would ever forget when she married 20-year-old John – it weighed 19 stone!

Britain’s Youngest Brides follows her as she prepares for her big day and struggles to get into the dress with its 20 layers of underskirts and 50,000 Swarovski crystals. It was so big she had to be dragged on her stomach into the limousine that was taking her to church. Her bridesmaids wore bubblegum pink dresses and sideways caps on their heads.
