Britannia High In A League Of Its Own
Arlene Phillips has revealed that there is no other musical quite like Britannia High and compares it to High School Musical and Fame.
At the press launch of the show Arlene stated:
“Britannia High is a musical drama like no other,” she said of the forthcoming TV series, which she created.
“I guess it sits somewhere between High School Musical and Fame. It’s about 16 to 18 [year-olds], and it’s set in a high school of performing arts, and the pupils in this high school are already talented, they can already sing, dance, act to get through into the school.
“The musical numbers are shot in a way like video promos. They’re really exciting. And the stories are quite gripping.”
“I think it’s a show that will appeal to a big family audience but also to that whole teen market because it’s got some gorgeous young talented people who look great,” she said.
“I think that talent sells. It isn’t just sex (that) sells - talent sells. Talent - when people can do something you can believe in them. I think that is exciting. I think talent is sexy,” she added.
The first episode will be broadcast online in October - a week before it goes out on TV - on the Britannia High website www.itv.com/britanniahigh.
