Towards the end of last week, the Recording Academy unveiled the list of nominees for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards which are set to take place in February.
The list of nominees weren’t surprising, though they appeared to be for some of the artists involved, including British singer-songwriter Sam Smith who has been nominated six times.
Smith has been nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for his debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best New Artist.
The Brit has also been nominated in the categories of Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year, and when the news was unveiled on Twitter, it was clear emotions were running high for the hitmaker.
Speaking with MTV News about his six nominations at the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards, the singer-songwriter confessed that it’s completely overwhelming but an honour.
The ‘Stay With Me’ superstar explained: “It’s pretty amazing. I just can’t believe I’ve got as many nominations as Beyoncé.
“For me, the GRAMMYs is when they say your song is good or your album is good [so] it means that they’re saying it’s a timeless piece of work…”
He went on to add that for him, that is precisely what he’s trying to do with his record, and somehow, we don’t think the news has completely set in yet as the star proclaimed: “It’s crazy”.
Sam also received a considerable amount of praise from fellow performer Jessie J, who spoke about his nominations at the GRAMMYs.
She explained: “He can sing and he writes amazing songs. There’s no gimmicks. He is who he is and people see through fake.
“I think that people have really warmed to him being so honest in his songs and his music. And he’s an incredible performer live. And he’s a nice guy.”
What do you think about Sam’s nominations at the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards? Are they well deserved? How many do you think he can scoop up?
