Britney Spears is one of the most ‘dangerous’ celebrities to search for online

The internet has come a very long way since the early days when we had to sit through that awful dial-up sound or when we had to disconnect when someone had to use the phone and with progression and speed, the web has also become a much more dangerous place to be.

A new list has been released this week, showing the most ‘dangerous’ celebrities to search for online, and who hackers are most like to target.

In a new survey conducted by internet security group McAfee stars such as Britney Spears and Bruce Springsteen have been named the most ‘dangerous’.

We must stress, not all links relating to the singers will have a virus linked to them, in fact most won’t, but you have to be careful with what you click, open or download.

Spokesperson for McAfee Gary Davis commented on the study: “Most consumers are completely unaware of the security risks that exist when searching for celebrity and entertainment news, images and videos online, sacrificing safety for immediacy,”

He added: “Cyber criminals capitalise on consumers’ attention to breaking celebrity news and leverage this behavior to lead them to unsafe sites that can severely infect their computers and devices and steal personal data.”

The Top 10 is available to view down below which shows for example that searching ‘Britney Spears’ gives you an 18.19 percent chance of contracting a virus onto your computer or some form of malware.

American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel tops the list with a 19.38 percent chance of contracting a virus or malware and apparently took the results fairly well and said:

“Who would have guessed that a boy who used to carry a briefcase to junior high and play the clarinet would become the most dangerous person?”

Others featured on the list included DJ Armin Van Buuren who was the highest ranking musician on the list at 19.33 percent while Bruce Springsteen is sitting at an 18.82 percent chance of an online threat through a simple search.

The full Top 10 are as follows:

* Jimmy Kimmel – 19.38 percent
* Armin Van Buuren – 19.33 percent
* Ciara – 19.31 percent
* Flo Rida – 18.89 percent
* Bruce Springsteen – 18.82 percent
* Blake Shelton – 18.47 percent
* Britney Spears – 18.19 percent
* Jon Bon Jovi – 17.64 percent
* Chelsea Handler – 17.22 percent
* Christina Aguilera – 16.67 percent

Once again we’ll say that the chance of contracting a virus or malware onto your computer is slim if you’re cautious and sensible.
