another thing is that what about boxing, judo, tae kwon do? these are int he olympics and are bit violent, people have had concussions, broken bones, MMA is just a step higher thats all. it is recognised as a new sport and it is getting noticed even more.

i love MMA, it can be very brutal but not as sick as brazilian bared knuckle vale tudo which allows head stomping, eye gouging, well everything dirty i suppose. MMA has had changes, new rules, new understanding, the referee has now got more power over the fights. remember, cock fighting is illegal because they are forced into it whereas these fighting athletes have chosen to do this by their own accord.

You have to be a complete donkey to want to ban MMA as a sport. A governing body is what is needed. State funded maybe? Apart from that it is the absolute pinnacle of the combat sports and in turn demonstrates extreme examples of chivalry, bravery, skill and above all sportsmanship. The BMA would prefer people to express themselves through psychotic violent episodes that they could study then controlled actions within a sport that does not agree with their sensibilities

It is a sport like any other and will grow and grow year upon year. as with any new sport they like to create fear and negativeness but the doctors are doctors and the fighter just like in boxing are fighters.

These may be the same doctors that tried to ban people from “doing the twist” in the 60’s because it could cause back problems, but to be honest i don’t see many people complaininfg of a bad back nowadays due to doing a dance.

But the promotors also have there morals which they say is for the sport, but if you look at each as individuals, promoters and fighters alike, you will find where there true morals lie! Just look at boxings promoter Don King, need i say more!”

I would like to add my 2 pennys to this. I am a huge MMA fan and think its about time UK tv channels started to acknowledge it. This sport and a sport is, is growing at an extremely fast rate it is only 13 years old or so and already has the potential to over take boxing and profesional wreslting in its size. My point is this if this was such a “barberic” sport then it would not have reached the heights it has in such a short time.

Also regarding the fighters themselves if you look at them and there back grounds you wil be notice that they all are very inteligent and have very good backgrounds indeed you look at the top guys and they have degrees in business or teachers some ran there own compaines. All these guys and girls chose to spend there time and there money which they earn working what we would consider to be a good and respectable jobs training in a sport they love.

My point here is this the sport has come on leaps and bounds since the early days of vale tudo style fighting where anything goes. It has become technical and regulated there has never been a death that is directly realated to mma but if we look at boxing its a different story. If we look at old boxers like Ali look what boxing has done to him and then the first people to fight in the UFC the Royce Gracies the Ken Shamrocks both of which are still competing today after countless fights each over the last 13 years. So i think i should stop there cos i just sound like im cryin but im tired of having to defend the sport i love just because someone else doesnt enjoy it.

(Also im sorry if i have spelt things wrong not very god at that, lol)

I agree with bma because mma is actuly based on when they really kick there heads in etc and not really safe at all because they will get perments brain damage and premerture deaths which not very nice.

would just like to agree with all the above.check the stats for deaths and injuries in a boxing ring on a rugby pitch or in motorsports and then compare that to mma fights, mma is alot safer enough said….well done itv its about time that some mainstream free to air tv companies backed up mma by televising fights. bma need to get their facts straight and stop spouting rubbish before they persecute a perfectly legitimate sport,mma has came along way since UFC 1 and other early mma shows.
