There’s potentially bad news for fans of Call the Midwife as it’s been reported that Miranda Hart, who of course plays the role of posh medic Chummy, may have to be written out of series four.
That’s because the filming schedule for new series would clash with her upcoming comedy tour in 2014.
A show insider told the Daily Mirror, “She’ll be fine for filming this year but there is a huge question mark hanging over anything beyond that.
“Next year is all about the stand-up tour.”
The paper adds, “Last month, newlywed Chummy left Poplar to be a missionary in India, but she is due to return before the end of the current run.”
However, the show’s producer, Hugh Warren, has warned of cast changes even ahead of series three.
He said recently, “You could lose a few people – as would have happened in the real Nonnatus House, people would have come and gone.
“A death is always good – dramatically. There will be a turnover of both nuns and nurses.”
Oh man, I hope they don’t kill Chummy off! She’s one of my favourites! And of course, she’s lots of people’s favourite, as proved when she won a National Television Award at the end of January for her role on the show.
Though she couldn’t be there on the night of the NTAs to accept that award – as she was filming in Australia – a message from her read, “I am properly thrilled and very grateful to eveyone who voted.
“Call the Midwife is an ensemble show so this goes to all the cast members.
“Please give my award for safe keeping to Gary Barlow who, since snogging me on my show, has been totally smitten and is going to take me as a lover.
“Now I must get back to Hugh Jackman, who saw me on Bondi Beach and seems quite keen.”
Here’s a reminder of Miranda as Chummy…
