The fabulous Caroline Quentin returns to our screens next week in a new six-part sitcom, Life Of Riley which starts on 5th January, BBC1, 8pm

Caroline plays Maddy, who’s recently remarried and is about to find out what happens when two families collide. Suddenly Maddy finds herself the head of a modern-day extended family, with children, stepchildren, step-siblings and half-siblings, and a few ex-partners and in-laws thrown in for good measure.

Maddy’s a bit like Roseanne but thinner, like Seinfeld but with dirtier trainers and like Victor Meldrew – but she does believe it. In Life Of Riley, Maddy discovers that parenting has never been so complicated and she’s outwitted at every turn by people a quarter of her age, which to anyone in a similar circumstance will be a familiar story!

In the opening episode, Maddy finds a pregnancy test and is convinced that it belongs to one of her stepchildren. However, she’s in for a big surprise when she finds out who the real owner is…
