It might be time to worry for fans of Castle.
Season 8 of the hit ABC crime drama is still very much up in the air – as the show’s lead stars Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion’s contracts run out at the end of this season and they’ve yet to renew.
Recently, Stana Katic spoke at length about whether there would be another season of the show. She talked about how for her it was more art over finance and that as long as the show are creating compelling storylines, they are ‘good to go’.
However, TVLine are reporting showrunner David Amann’s latest comments and it seems as if he’s as much in the dark about the show’s future as we, the fans are.
He discussed about how the decision for the show to continue isn’t in his nor series creator Andrew Marlowe’s hands – but in the studio and the actors themselves.
Amann is hoping they can resolve the show’s uncertain future sooner rather than later. So they can essentially move forward with the series and no doubt new and existing storylines.
Of course, if the worst comes to the worst and Castle is to wrap up at the end of season 7, the writers will have to bring to an end some of the show’s currently open plot lines. These include the Richard kidnapping on his wedding day, which has been much of the focus of the season, especially after the Beckett/Bracken arc ended with his arrest last season.
Alongside this, there’s also the 3XK storyline which judging by Dr Nieman’s return looks like it will be revisited by the writers. Especially after 7 years, they wouldn’t want to leave any stone unturned for their loyal viewers!
While it could be argued the likes of the kidnap plots were not Castle’s finest work. Surely the show has a lot more life in it yet? Especially with the likes of other crime shows – for example Bones – lasting the pace with their main two hitched.
What do you think though? Has Castle run its course or do you think there’s much more life left in it yet? Let us know in the comments below…
