Castle spoilers: Season 8 is NOT a sure thing! David Amann talks the show’s future…

It might be time to worry for fans of Castle.

Season 8 of the hit ABC crime drama is still very much up in the air – as the show’s lead stars Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion’s contracts run out at the end of this season and they’ve yet to renew.

Recently, Stana Katic spoke at length about whether there would be another season of the show. She talked about how for her it was more art over finance and that as long as the show are creating compelling storylines, they are ‘good to go’.

However, TVLine are reporting showrunner David Amann’s latest comments and it seems as if he’s as much in the dark about the show’s future as we, the fans are.

He discussed about how the decision for the show to continue isn’t in his nor series creator Andrew Marlowe’s hands – but in the studio and the actors themselves.

Amann is hoping they can resolve the show’s uncertain future sooner rather than later. So they can essentially move forward with the series and no doubt new and existing storylines.

Of course, if the worst comes to the worst and Castle is to wrap up at the end of season 7, the writers will have to bring to an end some of the show’s currently open plot lines. These include the Richard kidnapping on his wedding day, which has been much of the focus of the season, especially after the Beckett/Bracken arc ended with his arrest last season.

Alongside this, there’s also the 3XK storyline which judging by Dr Nieman’s return looks like it will be revisited by the writers. Especially after 7 years, they wouldn’t want to leave any stone unturned for their loyal viewers!

While it could be argued the likes of the kidnap plots were not Castle’s finest work. Surely the show has a lot more life in it yet? Especially with the likes of other crime shows – for example Bones – lasting the pace with their main two hitched.

What do you think though? Has Castle run its course or do you think there’s much more life left in it yet? Let us know in the comments below…

David Aman is ful of bull dust saying in effect that he has done nothing , is doing nothing and can do nothing that will determine if there will be a season 8. I’m not exactly sure what a show runner’s job is but I would think that he ran the show and therefore responsible for the success or failure of the series. The buck stops at David. He could, right now, end the kidnap debacle in episodes 13 and 14 or change the order of the episodes to end it sooner. Likewise he could end the 3xk debacle in merely one episode. He should and could talk with Stana and Nathan to discuss his plans for an 8th season. Without this discussion Stana and Nathan would have to consider season 8 based on the debacles in 6×23 and nearly all of season 7 to date and planned for the rest of the season. Without this Stana And Nathan would have but one choice – end it all. A decision, as a fan, I would not like but would personally understand. Enough of issues like the wedding which was resolved with the speed of dark which depleted some of the fan base and support. The fan and general support base would almost certainly grow if some positive action were to be taken to stop the direction of the series.

I think it has been a good run and I agree with Stana. If there are no more good stories to tell then is time to go. That is , unless they offer the leads at least 500,000 per episode. But even with that I would commit to only one more season. That would be because I would want a more substantial financial base since showbiz is so shaky.
The quality of the stories has evaporated this season.

I just re-watched bad Santa and realized that I was totally bored. There was nothing that stood out about it. It did not hold my attention. So maybe it is time to go before it becomes embarrassing.

The fans want to see more of Caskett. They finally get married and now that is such a small part of the show. We want to see their married life and all the fun and banter of the early seasons. How about some romance and personal episodes. Instead we wait 7 years and now you are separating them again. Something has definitely happened between them personally because that great chemistry is no longer smoldering. We see it now and then but the writing does not emphasize it and they often look awkward after so many great years together. Solve this problem and write to the relation ship that the fans LOVE!!!It was their relationship that made this show different from all other crime procedurals.

I must agree with both Phyllis Cook and smk. There is a lot of stories yet to be told, finding out with Rick back in his childhood,as well as the 3 XK saga.
Also you have a valid point Phyllis Cook. the writers has not been particularly busy with eithe romance or intimesy .And the amazing Chemestry that we saw in earlier seasons is not something we see to much of anymore…….and they are newlywed…..very strange I think. This Cemestry was one of the things that ppl loved about the show, and there have been a lot of disepointed audience since this has beem tuned down…..Let me quote Stana Katic who said in an interview
Even if they get married, there can be spice and bantering. This is so true…..please bring it back
So I do hope for a season 8 ,and x my fingers for an new season of this great show called Castle.

They need to dump that new mythology crap and get back to Caskett. The 3XK story at least has a history involving both Castle and Beckett and it’s not coming out of nowhere. The Castle missing thing is obviously just something that was thrown together to stall the first wedding in a “dramatic” way. If they wrap it quickly and get back to the characters the show has lots of stories about them they could do now that they’re married. It’s always been about Castle and Beckett’s relationship. When it focus’s on them the show is fabulous!

I think there is a lot left in the Caskett files. I agree that some of the scripts lately have been a bit mundane, but the relationship between the whole cast has a strong base, for good future episodes. If Stana (and the others)is interested in the art rather than the pay then the series is in good hands, providing that the script writers work hard for series 8. It is still one of the best shows on TV and the cast has welded well. Long may they reign.

My thoughts are this….episode 6×23 should have been the wedding, no ‘missing Castle’ storyline, Kate & Rick deserved it, as did the fans. That being said, you can’t change time, so 6×23 is done, but I’m still all in as a Castle/Caskett fan to continue watching! Season 7 has had some great moments, Stana Katic’s superb performance in Driven, actually, her performance in every episode, she’s just spot on, the girl deserves some awards, Clear & Present Danger was fun & finally some romance (which we need more of), & their chemistry together to me seems sweet & I love the looks they give each other, plus the more personal side of them at home is fun to watch. The entire cast is great & I’d be sad to see it end 🙁 Season 7 can’t be the end, we need conclusions to some story lines, plus we as fans, would like to see some personal stories….like a Caskett baby! So…in a nutshell…Season 8 is necessary….we need it….we want it….there are more stories to tell!!

I believe that we are all pretty much in agreement that Caskett worked best as a team and had a great personal life with some sensuality thrown in. Likewise we all seem to be in agreement that 6×23 was a fiasco as is the Castle missing 2 months. The wedding in season 7 satisfied me as far as repairing the wedding damage in 6×23. Hopefully the newly announced episodes 11 & 12 should and must end with Castle and Beckett being reunited as a crime fighting team. Episodes 13 & 14 were previously announced as bringing up the missing Castle (with no final resolution) fiasco and the 3xk issue (again with no mention of resolution of the issue). The missing Castle issue should be resolved by the end of episode 13. I do not mind if the 3xk issues continue for a while longer as long as the case comes up in some manner in each episode after 14 to show some necessity to continue and to solve the case.

There is always more art in a story line that can be riveting, interesting & extraordinary. The whole talented cast is capable of a lot more episodes & seasons. Hope the stars & writers don’t listen to the few complainers. If Stana or Nathan quit, then they will All be out of a job. Now that they are Caskett, it opens up a lot more story telling, just like it did on Bones. With the way things are in the world today, we need shows like this with the mystery, romance & comedy together that we love to enjoy as a distraction from our own every day problems. (Quote from show) “We don’t give up!”

  11. Buddy on December 23, 2014 at 8:57 pm

Few complainers? Where have you been? Haven’t you looked at any of the figures on how many are watching, better yet how many are not watching? I also believe that the show runner and writers have started to listen to the concerned fans (as I prefer to call them) and are starting to make improvements as evidenced by the Caskett wedding. I also hope and expect that the competition between Beckett and Castle are short lived before damage is done. Same goes regarding the absence of any real home life relationship. Too many extraneous story lines are being introduced with little or no progress being made on any of them. The show is moving forward at the speed of dark because of these nuisance back stories.

  12. S.Orms on December 23, 2014 at 10:29 pm

By few complainers, I meant compared to how many aren’t. ABC considers it to be one of their top shows. However, as David Amann has said they aren’t sure if there will be a season 8 yet. Many decisions have to be made & we’ll just have to wait & see. Hopefully they can work everything out
Castle is supposed to be back in the precinct after the 1st 2 episodes. Sort of like when Beckett was in Washington.

I love the show no matter what direction they are going in. Nathan was right when he said, its the only show on TV that is not like the rest, its light hearted, funny, romantic, and always has a good mystery. However, I will agree that the show revolves around Castle and Beckett and their relationship. People watch because they want what they have and they make it seem so real. Nathan is a crackup, he makes me laugh every episode and Stana is an amazing actress, both together are very refreshing in a world full of stress. They both don’t just play their roles they really feel their roles. I believe they can last as long as NCIS and longer. There is a lot you can do with this show if you enjoy the actors. I enjoy watching good acting no matter what, and this show has it all! Stana, if its art not finance you are interested in, then CASTLE will survive the odds!
