Evan Williams

Evan Williams

In yet another incredibly shocking documentary in the Unreported World series, reporter Evan Williams and his colleague Paul Kittel – director and cameraman – travelled to the Brazilian city of Recife, a beach paradise that’s visited by thousands of British tourists every year.

There, they uncovered allegations that the police are involved in ‘death squads’ which murder thousands of ‘undesirables’, including hundreds of street children, every year.

Within minutes of the programme beginning, Evan and Paul were taken to the scene of the murder of an 18-year-old boy at the side of a street. Police officers told Evan that the murder was “an execution” – a close-range shot to the head, typical of many of the city’s thousands of murders each year… Read more & comment »

Anna Friel To Star In ‘Breakfast At Tiffanys’

Anna Friel: Pushing Daisies

Pushing Daisies’ Anna Friel will star as Holly Golightly in a new stage version of Breakfast at Tiffany’s opening in London this September.

I liked Daisies and it’s quirky qualities and I can well imagine Anna Friel in this role. However she may be setting herself up for a fall as who can really compare to the iconic Audrey Hepburn who starred in the screen version back in 1961.

Maybe if the play sticks more to the original Truman Capote novella and less to the lighter, brighter movie version Friel will avoid constant comparisons and make the role her own.

He added: “As a viewer I like to watch that kind of conversational chatshow. It’s missing now. Maybe it will come back. I don’t know.”

Michael Parkinson Says There Is No Good TV Shows For Pensioners

michael_parkinson

Michael Parkinson says there are no good TV shows for the older generation and that programme bosses focus too heavily on the youngsters.

The 74-year-old tv chat show host says many pensioners feel “disassociated” from cookery programmes and shows for youngsters.

He tells Channel 4’s Paul O’Grady today: “Television is full of chefs rissoling the language, people pretending a well-cooked pork chop is a work of art like the Sistine Chapel. It’s silly.”

Channel 4 Dramas Under Threat

Axing Channel 4 dramas such as Endgame and Red Riding is one of the “unpleasant choices” that may arise from the ‘credit crunch’ a channel boss has said.
