Torchwood - Only 5 episodes for Series 3

I’ve just read that Torchwood has only been commissioned for five episodes for the next series. The normal run for a BBC drama like this is thirteen episodes, so this looks like a massively shortened series.

What the hell?

The last series of Torchwood was possibly the most consistently brilliant Sci-Fi programming I’ve seen in ages, with massive flights of fancy while telling some very touching and human stories. Read more & comment »

We’ve had storylines involving William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens, the latter who got a little nod from Donna Noble tonight - “I mean, that’s like having Charles Dickens, surrounded by ghosts…at Christmas” “Could happen, you know…” retorted The Doctor.

So, understandably, I spent most of tonight’s episode wondering what literary mastermind might be tackled in the next series - Jane Austen? Emily Bronte? Geoffrey Chaucer?
