This weekend will see a TV first, the first woman commentator on BBC’s Match Of The Day.
Jacqui Oatley, Five Live Sport reporter said: “I’m not breaking barriers for women. I do it for the same reason as any bloke: I love my football.”
Some people however are not happy about the BBC’s choice and believe that Jacqui only got the job because she is female.
Ex-Sheffield United and Wimbledon manager Dave Bassett said: “Football is so politically correct these days. I’m totally against it. The problem is everyone’s too scared to admit it.”
Roger Mosey, the BBC’s head of sport, said yesterday: “Jacqui was selected on merit in exactly the same way as all our other commentators. We want to reflect the nation and it’s daft that we’ve had so few women commentators. It’s something we want to put right.”
