CELEBRITIES TO COMPETE IN TOTAL WIPEOUT
It has been announced today that BBC One has commissioned two further series of the global blockbuster Total Wipeout. The commission will run as two separate series, the first premiering in summer 2009. Each series will include two celebrity specials, plus a brand new ‘Champion of Champions’ edition.
The format, which is Endemol’s latest international hit, debuted in the UK in January this year. It quickly became a ratings winner amongst all audiences and has regularly beat competitors in its Saturday night time slot. The highest rating episode aired on Saturday 7th February and achieved a peak audience of 8 million people (34 % share).
Presented by Richard Hammond, Total Wipeout is packed with muscle, grit, entertainment, action and impressive wipeouts. Contestants from all walks of life compete on one of the world’s largest and most extreme obstacle courses, hoping to win a cash prize.
Amanda Byram will host from Endemol’s purpose built course in Argentina.
Endemol UK’s Creative Director Richard Osman says; “The spectacular thrills and spills in Total Wipeout have quickly proved to appeal to audiences of all ages. We can’t wait to see how celebrities cope with the physical challenge in Argentina as they attempt one of the toughest and most ridiculous games ever created”
Mark Linsey, BBC Controller Entertainment Commissioning adds; “It’s a pleasure to announce that we’ve secured another two series of Total Wipeout. The show was a huge hit with our audience and has cemented itself as a key part of our Saturday night entertainment line-up, and further highlights our commitment to offer viewers a varied portfolio of family entertainment shows throughout the year.”
The final episode of series one of Total Wipeout will air this Saturday, 21st March on BBC One.
