Channel 4 To Increase Coverage Summer Festivals

Channel 4’s commitment to music continues to grow throughout the summer season as it expands its extensive coverage of the most talked-about music festivals and events of the year. As well as returning to previously covered festivals, Channel 4 will also be adding LoveBox, Wakestock and Rockness to the calendar.

The season kicks off on 7th and 8th June with the Rockness festival in Dores (near Inverness) in Scotland which Channel 4 will be covering for the first time in the festival’s history. Headlining on the Saturday are Fatboy Slim and The View, with Razorlight and Underworld headlining on the Sunday. These highlights programmes will then be shown later in June on Channel 4.

The second new festival to be added to Channel 4’s roster this year is Wakestock - Europe’s largest festival for both music and wakeboarding. The festival is held at two locations (Blenheim and Abersoch) over the summer and Channel 4 will be covering the Blenheim section from 27th to 29th June. Two 30 minute highlight shows will be shown in July which will include performances from a line-up that includes The Streets, Mark Ronson, Estelle and Pendulum.

O2 Wireless Festival – Hyde Park’s very own music festival gets four dedicated highlight shows from 3rd to 6th July. Each programme will be hosted (presenters tbc) and will be broadcast almost immediately after the headliners have left the stage on Channel 4. Confirmed headline acts include Jay Z, Morrissey and Fatboy Slim. Plus T4 will be broadcasting backstage from the event across the last two days of the festival and hosting their own ‘mini festival’ over the weekend.

Now in its sixth year, T4 on the Beach returns to Weston-super-Mare on 20th July for the fourth time. The one-day event that brings together the cream of the UK and international music scene where over 30 acts including Adele, Pigeon Detectives, McFly, Scouting For Girls, The Hoosiers, The Feeling and Robyn will be performing to a live audience of tens of thousands across two stages. Steve Jones, Miquita Oliver, Rick Edwards and Alexa Chung will host this must-see musical extravaganza that will broadcast live for four hours. Following the event, there will be further highlights across the channel including a 4Music hour-long special featuring all the best bits from the second 4Music stage, plus a ten part ‘Postcards’ series giving you AAA access to the big event.

The third festival to be added to Channel 4’s summer coverage for the first time is the LoveBox London Weekender on 19th and 20th July. Headlining are The Flaming Lips and dance duo Groove Armada who pioneered the festival back in 2003. This coverage will then be shown over the summer on Channel 4.

For the fifth year running Channel 4 will covering the V Festival on 16th and 17th August. This year there will be extended coverage, live backstage interviews and a chance to catch up with all the behind-the-scenes gossip. Highlights will be shown for both nights which include performances from headliners Muse, The Prodigy, Ian Brown, The Verve, Kaiser Chiefs and The Chemical Brothers. Road to V will also be returning to C4’s screens this summer in June for a ten week run giving two unsigned bands the opportunity to open the C4 stages across both sites of the two day festival. T4 will once again be broadcasting live from the festival across the weekend.

In a grand finale to the festival season Channel 4 will be covering the Isle of Wight’s three day boutique festival Bestival, which is now in its fifth year, from 5th to 7th September. The coverage of the includes exclusive highlights from headliners including Amy Winehouse and Underworld. These highlights will then play out across 4Music and T4 in September.
