Christine Bleakley has revealed that Frank Lampard’s proposal to her was not a showy affai.
The Chelsea footballer popped the question to the Daybreak presenter last week and news of their engagement broke yesterday. Speaking on Daybreak this morning, Bleakley – who is currently enjoying a holiday in LA with her fiancée – told Kate Garraway:
“I was beyond shocked! It wasn’t glamorous, it wasn’t very fancy and I know some people might expect that. But it was really personal and very private actually.
“We were just having a gorgeous lunch by the beach and he simply popped the question. It was completely out of the blue.”
“He started to build up to it and got a little bit lovey dovey and half way through the lovely dovey bit, I realised what he was about to do!”
On how she reacted to the proposal, Bleakley confessed that she couldn’t stop crying. She laughed:
“I started to cry. I cried for about ten minutes. Then he pulled the ring out and said, ‘Will you marry me?’ and that was it.”
“We kind of feel like we’re on cloud nine, up in our own little bubble. It’s all a bit odd and we can’t wait to get home and see everybody.”
She went on:
“It feels surreal to be honest.”
Although Bleakley may not have suspected that Lampard was planning to pop the question, she revealed that he had it all planned and had even spoken to her parents before hand.
“He had it all organised,” she explained. “Funnily enough, because I’m such a nosey cow, he thought that if he brought the ring over, I would find it in the suitcase. So one of his best mates, who works out here, flew out with the ring in advance.
“It was like a military operation to make sure I got the ring without ever having seen it previously! It was all organised about three months leading up to this day.”
On setting a date, Bleakley added: “I can assure everybody that it won’t be anytime relatively soon. We’re just going to enjoy the period. It’s all a bit crazy!”
