Surprise, Surprise Cilla Black is coming back to Blind Date!
Anyone alive during the 80’s, 90’s and even early 00’s will have spent at least one Saturday night glued to the television watching Cilla Black trying to bring romance to two people’s lives in the hugely popular dating show, Blind Date.
The show, which originally started in 1985, focussed on three singles, who were questioned by a single of the opposite sex, who could hear but not see them, to choose with whom to go on a date.
Before the decision ‘Graham’ (replaced on the final series by Tommy Sandhu), who was never seen, gave an amusing reminder of each contestant.
The couple then picked an envelope naming their destination, although the “random choice” was fixed as all envelopes contained the same destination. The following episode showed the couple on their date (with locations ranging from Bognor Regis or a date in an ice cream factory to Anguilla or the Maldives), and interviews with them about the date and about each other.
Never was Cilla more excited than when she heard that one of her pairings had made in down the aisle, which usually resulted in a huge show special.
But this year there will be a one-off special of a different kind, to celebrate Black’s 50-year career in the entertainment industry.
This special Blind Date episode will be part of another programme, The One and Only Cilla Black, presented by Paul O’Grady and Blind Date producers are aiming to bring back some of the show’s most memorable contestants who are still single, giving them a second chance to win a date.
Also expected to be taking part in the show are some famous faces who have emerged after taking part such as TV presenter Jenni Falconer who appeared back in 1994, and Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden, who took part back in 1991.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Blind Date was renowned for some of its “out there” contestants. It will be great to see what some of the most memorable ones are up to now.
“And for those who are still single, Cilla will play the dating game one more time. Who know, this time they might actually find love!’
The One and Only Cilla Black will see the highly-acclaimed presenter return to her hometown of Liverpool where she will share her favourite moments from her hugely successful career as well as discussing some of her high-profile friendships with the likes of The Beatles, Barbara Windsor and Christopher Biggins.
