City Lights: Life In Witness protection
As part of the witness protection programme the Armstrongs and the Scotts take on entirely new identities and become the Shearers and the Carrs. Colin is now Brad and Howie is Wayne; which (inadvertently) makes him Wayne Carr, much to Colin’s continual amusement. The families are re-located to a safe house in London, and all ties to their former life are severed.
Tensions run high at 11 Park Road. Our heroes are not used to sharing an ice cream – let alone the bathroom and the kitchen. And when both Howie and Colin both want to make a cooked breakfast, disaster ensues with Howie engulfed in flames…
Colin revels in his new persona, oblivious to the seriousness of their situation but his good humour is short-lived when checks on everyone’s family histories uncover a secret Colin has been keeping from Jackie (Nicola Stephenson) – she was not his first wife. Howie and Pauline’s (Sian Reeves) marital difficulties worsen when she discovers Howie knew about Colin’s ex-wife, and both women throw their husbands out.
Scott Sweeney lies low, evading the police. Still determined to silence the witnesses he sends out his two hapless accomplices, Hatton (Neil Bell) and Gully (Ben McKay), to locate them. They find a weak link in D.S. Gary Tate, who happens to have a penchant for gambling, and threaten him in order to find an address for the witnesses. Daughter Brooke (Linzey Cocker) then contacts Daniel (David Atkins), her boyfriend from back home, offering a tantalising opportunity for Tate to uncover information (thus placating Sweeney and wiping his gambling debts). Tate is in a quandary and doesn’t know what to do.
