City Lights: Traffic Wardens

Howie (Mark Benton) is in denial over the state of his marriage. Colin (Robson Green), determined to cheer his best mate up and excited at the prospect of wearing a uniform, manages to convince a depressed Howie that they should become traffic wardens. The shine quickly wears off, however, as Colin mistakenly tickets David Ginola (as himself), one of his all time heroes and Howie gets an ear full from an irate O.A.P. They soon decide this is not for them…

All is not doom and gloom though, as their new boss Cheryl (Sarah Moyle) takes a shine to Howie, inviting them to a local quiz night. Hoping to take his mind off his marital problems, Colin persuades Howie to go along. They clean up but emotions run high during the ‘Mr and Mrs’ round, when Howie realises that Pauline (Sian Reeves) doesn’t want to be with him anymore.

Pauline contacts Tate (Nicholas Gleaves), their relationship strengthens, and they spend their first night together. Tate is torn between his increasing feelings for Pauline, and getting a result for Sweeney (Paul Ritter), when he accidentally discovers the safe house address. Confused, he decides to keep the information to himself for the time being.

The kids start at their new school and after an initial problem with school bully Lewis (Oliver Segal) they - and in particular, Brooke (Linzey Cocker) - find a friend in neighbour Ben (Heshima Thompson). Howie and Pauline reach rock bottom and he moves out to a dingy flat, hoping time apart will help their marriage. However, the separation takes its toll on our two boys as well and it isn’t too long before Howie is back on the sofa watching TV with his best pal Colin – much to Pauline’s frustration.
