City Lights: Wednesday 9 May

Wednesday 9 May 2007 9:00pm – 10:00pm on ITV1.

An injured Colin (Robson Green) and Howie (Mark Benton) wake up in a grotty caravan – face to face with their pursuer Scott Sweeney (Paul Ritter). The families back home are worried sick as the police press Pauline (Sian Reeves) for some more information on her affair. Pauline’s unwillingness to divulge the name of her lover pushes her further away from her sister.

Sweeney not only believes that Colin and Howie are key witnesses to the shooting but that they are also in possession of a missing drugs stash. Eyeing an opportunity to escape, Colin leads Hatton (Neil Bell) and Gully (Ben McKay) to the imaginary location of the missing drugs – Mr Youd’s garden – where a half finished rock pool, a love-lorn Cheryl (Sarah Moyle) and a disgruntled Mr Youd (Bill Thomas) are waiting. An escape attempt is bungled by Howie’s toilet habits and with no drugs found the pair are dragged back to Sweeney’s hideout.

At the caravan, a battered and desperate Gary Tate (Nicholas Gleaves) is waiting for them, gun in hand – his intention to kill Colin and Howie while Sweeney makes his get away. Howie finds out that Tate is the man who has been sleeping with his wife. Putting personal matters aside, Tate double-crosses Sweeney to help Colin and Howie escape. With Gully dead and Hatton in the boot of the car, the trio race to catch Sweeney before he can escape by plane. With Sweeney apprehended and Tate arrested, Colin and Howie return to their families. Colin’s injury comes to a head when he collapses in agony.

One appendectomy later, and Colin and Howie watch the city lights from the London Eye. They contemplate what the future may hold for their new lives in the capital…
