On Monday, out in the Square, Janine counts down to the grand switch on of the Square’s Christmas tree lights, while Jane mentions to a distracted Christian that she’s concerned about Ian having sold the Mitchells’ loan to Archie.

In the Vic meanwhile, Peggy’s outraged at the family’s situation and angrily states that they should never have trusted Ian in the first place. Roxy, however, immediately jumps to Archie’s defence and blames Peggy for signing the divorce papers stating that she now has no claim on any of Archie’s estate.

In an attempt to calm the situation, Ronnie reminds everyone that Archie owns the Vic on paper, but without a possession order, his ownership is only theoretical. The Mitchell sisters argue over potential ways in which to deal with their father, and when Roxy suggests mediation, Ronnie reminds Roxy that they can’t trust him in the slightest.

Later, Archie turns up at the Vic and sits around a table with his daughters in an attempt to mediate. They all agree that they’ll at least attempt to maintain the peace over Christmas, but when Janine arrives, Ronnie makes her feelings explicitly clear saying that Janine’s not part of the Mitchell family.

Furious at Ronnie’s harsh words, Archie expresses his disappointment before storming out of the pub. With Archie gone, Janine cruelly reveals to Ronnie and Roxy that Billy knew about their plan to seize the Vic. With that, Ronnie lunges at Janine and throws her out, while Roxy agrees with her sister; it’s all-out war.

Meanwhile, Ian tells Ben that selling the Mitchells’ loan to Archie was nothing personal. Ben, however, suggests that Ian buy it back and Jane agrees. Distraught over Ian’s actions, Jane confides in Christian about her husband’s stupidity and during their conversation, Christian unwitting reveals that he’s met someone and has been having a relationship for a number of months. Later in the Square, Jane spots Christian staring up at Syed’s bedroom window and she suddenly realises that Syed is the man that her brother’s in love with.

On Tuesday, the Mitchells are on the verge of losing their livelihood to Archie, and Phil holds Ian responsible. Banging on his door, Phil lambastes Ian for propelling the Mitchells into financial ruin. Guilt-ridden, Ian pays Archie a visit and makes an offer to buy back the loan, but Archie suggests that he go away and “think about it”. Ian later finds Archie and reiterates his offer to buy back the Mitchells’ loan, but Janine’s firm – it’s not for sale.

Meanwhile, Ronnie suggests to the rest of the family that they should open up at 5pm as it’s one of the busiest times of the year, but Phil points out that they don’t have any beer to sell. Ronnie, however, has a solution and the mood is soon lifted when she suggests to Peggy that they face the locals head on rather than cower away upstairs.

Ronnie’s seething at her father’s actions and exclaims that they won’t go down quietly, before demanding both Archie and Janine leave. As Ronnie moves towards Archie, he pushes her against the bar. At that moment, Roxy reveals that Ronnie’s pregnant. With Archie gone for the night, Ronnie heads upstairs for an early night, but as she does, she doubles over in agony. Will her baby survive?

Over at Pat’s, she tries to explain her earlier news to Ricky while Whitney and Bianca invite Ryan to the Jacksons’ for Christmas. Later though, Bianca’s devastated when she returns home to find that Pat’s packed her bags as she’s going to New Zealand for a couple of weeks.

Finally, Peggy continues selling raffle tickets.

On Thursday, it’s Christmas Eve and Roxy and Peggy are at the hospital waiting for news on Ronnie while a restless Archie’s pacing up and down his living room waiting for news. Later, Peggy pays Archie a visit and slaps him around the face before threatening trouble if he ever goes near Ronnie or Roxy ever again. A conniving Janine then walks in dressed in skimpy negligee and asks Archie to return to bed. With that, Peggy leaves the house in disgust.

On her return to the Vic, Peggy informs Phil and Ben about Ronnie’s condition, prompting Phil to pour himself a drink. Peggy can only watch on as her family falls apart at the seams, and she’s further outraged when Billy turns up and admits that he knew about Archie’s plan all along.

Later, Peggy’s about to announce the winning raffle ticket, but Mo complains that she’s not had a chance to buy one.

Stacey hands Mo one of Bradley’s tickets, and when the number’s drawn, Mo’s delighted that she’s the lucky winner. Bradley’s disgruntled that the ticket was originally his while Mo claims that her luck was down to the Queen Vic bust as she touched it moments before the draw. With that, everyone touches the bust in the hope that it’ll bring them luck.

Peggy then wishes everyone a happy Christmas, prompting Minty to raise a toast to Peggy. Roxy’s fuming when Janine and Archie enter, but Peggy insists that she invited them as family’s “more important than any property”.

Archie and Janine are behind the bar as the Mitchells file down the stairs one by one with their belongings. As Phil threatens Archie, Peggy returns upstairs to collect the remainder of her possessions. Outside, Mo drives away in Max’s car that she won on the raffle and as she does, the nativity charity takings spill onto the road. Leading her family from the Vic, Peggy hands Charlie her licensee plaque and asks him to dispose of it. Fighting back the tears, Peggy walks away from the Vic with the rest of the family in tow.

Bianca’s later taken aback when she reads Tiffany’s letter to Santa and sees that her last wish is for her mummy and daddy to get married.

On Christmas Day at 8pm, the Mitchells wake on Christmas morning in various houses across Walford. Peggy leaves Dot and Jim’s house and heads across to see Phil, who stayed with Shirley. Roxy and Amy, meanwhile, wake at Jack’s house, and Archie soon turns up with a sack of presents for his granddaughter. Jack’s unhappy with Archie’s presence and goes to visit Ronnie in hospital. Archie then turns up to see Ronnie, but she doesn’t want him there so Jack throws Archie out. With Archie gone, Jack tries to calm Ronnie down as she paces the ward in a state, but she declares that she wants her father dead. After fetching a doctor, Jack panics when he discovers that Ronnie’s disappeared.

Later, Janine and Archie are upstairs in the Vic celebrating their “dream come true”. Archie reveals that he offered to pay Tracey extra to open up early but she unexpectedly resigned. As Janine recounts her childhood in the Vic, Archie assures her that he’ll sort out Christmas dinner. Janine’s later intrigued when Archie hands her an envelope; it’s the first clue in a treasure hunt.

Janine searches for the clues and she eventually finds the final one under the Queen Vic bust. Janine’s not impressed though when she opens the last envelope. It’s not what she’d expected in the slightest. With that, Archie hands Janine her suitcase, admits that he’s been using her, and throws her out of his pub.

Peggy’s enraged by what Archie’s done to her and her family while Ronnie walks back to Walford with intent. A broken Janine, meanwhile, stares up at the Vic with a murderous look in her eyes…

jacksons, eastenders

Meanwhile, over at Pat’s house, the kids are desperate to open their presents and Bianca eventually agrees that they can. Janine turns up asking what time they’ll all be over at the Vic for lunch, though Ricky insists that he’s staying where he is for the day. Furious at her brother’s betrayal, Janine says that she’ll never forgive him. As Janine walks away from the house, she bumps into Ryan who reveals that he’s quit his job at the pub.

The Jacksons’ Christmas dinner descends into a food fight, and among the chaos, Bianca insists that Ricky doesn’t have to move out as she loves him. Before Ricky knows what’s happening, Bianca’s proposed that they tie the knot – again! Their elation, however, is short-lived when they’re suddenly interrupted…

Elsewhere, Bradley and Jean are concerned for Stacey’s welfare as they join, Stacey, Mo, Charlie, Jim and Dot to all spend Christmas Day with Abi and Max. After dinner, Mo encourages the family to go to the Vic, but nobody seems interested and Stacey heads off home while Max takes Abi’s phone and secretly makes a call to Tanya.

jack, archie, eastenders

Furious at Archie’s treatment of Ronnie, Jack pays him a visit at the Vic and pushes him up against the bar. Threatening Archie, an enraged Jack warns him never to go anywhere near Ronnie ever again. Afterwards, Archie finds Ronnie behind the bar staring at him. Archie’s nonchalant and unapologetic about his actions towards Ronnie, and she calmly admits that she’d be happier if he were dead. After making a cruel remark about Danielle, Archie throws his daughter out of the Vic.

After Ronnie’s encounter with her father, Jack and Roxy attempt to placate her rage. As Jack leaves the flat, Roxy goes to check on Amy but when she returns to the room, Roxy’s perturbed to find that her sister’s disappeared.

After also being thrown out of the Vic, an upset Janine heads over to Pat’s house, much to Ricky and Bianca’s surprise. As the Jacksons head out to the carol service, Ryan stays to talk with Janine. He walks away though when he listens to her scheme to exact revenge on Archie. Later at the Car Lot, Janine angrily grabs a knife and walks out into the Square. Outside, Bianca’s concerned that she’s blown her chances with Ricky after proposing. Will he give her the answer that she’s waiting for?

At the Vic, Peggy gives Archie an ultimatum; either leave the Vic tonight or he’ll face the consequences. Unmoved by his wife’s threats, Archie hands back the divorce papers in the hope of spending one more night with her. Peggy’s disgusted by his suggestion and quickly leaves, but watches the Vic from the shadows outside…

Later, Archie’s knocked to the ground by a mystery assailant and when he hears a noise, he looks up to see who’s there. As he does though, his attacker delivers a fatal blow to his head.

ronnie, eastenders

On Boxing Day at 7pm, concerned for her sister, Roxy rushes across the Square toward the Vic, and when she walks inside, she’s stunned by what she sees; Ronnie cradling their dying father on the floor. Fading fast, Archie mutters “I’m sorry” to Ronnie before passing away in her arms.

Devastated by what she’s just witnessed, Roxy backs out of the Vic and in sheer hysteria, screams at the carol singers that she thinks her dad’s dead. Shortly afterwards, Jack walks into the pub with Roxy and he checks to see if Archie still has a pulse, but he’s unable to find one. Ronnie claims that she found him like that when she walked into the Vic, but didn’t call for an ambulance because Archie was trying to tell her something. With that, Jack puts in a call to the emergency services.

PCs Adams and Young arrive at the scene and Ronnie admits that she was the one who found the body. On further questioning, Ronnie begins to feel the pressure, but she maintains that she didn’t kill her father. She does however admit that she did return to see him because she was upset following their earlier argument, and as the questions continue, Ronnie becomes more agitated.

Meanwhile, over at the Slaters’ – where the Jacksons are also visiting – Jack announces that Archie’s dead. At the Car Lot, Ryan finds Janine and informs her that Archie’s dead, and she appears visibly stunned by the news. At that moment, Ryan asks Janine whether she killed Archie but Janine’s adamant that she didn’t because she had genuine feelings for him.

Meanwhile, Peggy returns to Dot’s house and pulls her and Archie’s divorce papers from under her coat.

With the Vic now a crime scene, PCs Adams and Young emerge with Ronnie handcuffed as she’s been arrested on suspicion of murdering Archie. The locals watch on as Ronnie’s driven away in a police car for further questioning.
