Community season 5: Donald Glover reduces role, will only appear in a handful of episodes in forthcoming season
It has today been revealed that Donald Glover has had his role reduced in the forthcoming season of Community.
The actor is set to appear less on the upcoming season due to his desire to focus on other projects.
According to Vulture, Glover will only appear in five of the thirteen episodes of the forthcoming fifth season of Community. It is said he wants to focus more on other projects. What you may (or may not know) is that Glover is also a singer and goes under the stage name of Childish Gambino – he has worked with various different artists including the UK’s very own Leona Lewis.
It is also said he is developing a semi-autobiographical comedy for NBC.
But, when you lose one you pick one up as it was revealed a few weeks back that Dan Harmon is returning to the helm of Community for its fifth season. He left the show following season three due to a high profile bust up with then-cast member, Chevy Chase. However, Chase handed in his notice during season four’s production and will not be returning for the fifth season – so we hope there’s no more bust ups on the horizon.
Speaking about season four on one of his podcast’s, Harmon said: “I guess I already knew this, but apparently, I’m a genius. I think I feel pretty comfortable in expressing that [season 4] was not my cup of tea.
“It’s not somebody doing what they do. It’s very much like an impression – an unflattering one. It’s 13 episodes of people doing, ‘Derpy, derpy, der, I’m Dan Harmon, der’.”
Chris McKenna will also return this season as Executive Producer after missing season four.
Community is expected to return in 2014 – no premiere date has yet been confirmed for the fifth season.
