CORONATION STREET AND BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT LAUNCH IN HIGH DEFINITION

As Britain’s Got Talent reaches the live stage of the competition and Coronation Street nears the climax of killer Tony Gordon’s dramatic prison breakout storyline, ITV1 and ITV1 HD will broadcast a unique schedule for the week commencing Monday 31st May.

Britain’s Got Talent will be broadcast live, Monday 31st May to Friday 4th June, on ITV1 from 7.30pm to 9.00pm, and for the first time in ‘native’ high definition on the new ITV1 HD channel. A Britain’s Got Talent Results show will follow later on both channels from 9.30pm to 10.00pm. The 2010 Britain’s Got Talent Final will be live on ITV1 and ITV1 HD on Saturday June 5th.

In a week which sees Tony back for revenge, with the storyline coming to a head in explosive fashion, ITV1 will screen six special episodes of Coronation Street. These will also be broadcast on ITV1 HD, as the soap launches for the first time in ‘native’ high definition. Tony targets his ex-wife Carla (Alison King), lover Maria (Samia Smith), nemesis Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and wife Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh). In the most expensive episodes ever filmed by Coronation Street, Tony is soon holding those who he believes to be responsible for his downfall hostage in the factory with the help of new accomplice Robbie, played by James Fleet.

The week’s first episode will broadcast from 7.00pm to 7.30pm on ITV1 / ITV1 HD, with five further episodes stripped across the week from 9.00pm to 9.30pm – a first for Coronation Street, which celebrates its 50th anniversary later this year.

Peter Fincham, ITV’s Director of Television, Channels and Online, said: “With the live drama of Britain’s Got Talent and the explosive return of one of Coronation Street’s most notorious villains, it’s a huge week for ITV1 and our viewers. I’m particularly delighted that both shows will be available in high definition for the first time on ITV1 HD.”
