Coronation Street: Bev Callard calls time on her pub

Coronation Street actress Bev Callard – who plays publican Liz – has had to sell the pub she runs in real life due to mounting debts and financial difficulties.

The Gallery pub and restaurant in Hale Barns, Cheshire has closed and according to the Daily Star today, Bev has put her company BJC Entertainment Ltd, into liquidation. The pub and restaurant were one of the company’s assets.

A source is quoted in the newspaper as saying, “She might be able to run the Rovers Return but she couldn’t run a real-life pub in this climate.”

Bev first spoke of her financial difficulties in July when she said, “If only running a real pub was half as easy as it looks on Coronation Street. The way we run The Rovers on telly is in the realms of make-believe. If it was in the real world it would have shut down years ago.”

It probably hasn’t helped that her salary for her role on Coronation Street was cut by 40% this year, along with several other cast members.
