Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent has defended the writers decision to introduce her character to Christianity.

Brooke has played the role of Sophie Webster for six years and says she is glad that the show is portraying teenagers in such a positive light.

Brooke told The Daily Star: “We’re not all in a gang hanging around on street corners.

“There are just a few people of my age who are bad, ruining it for the rest of us. This storyline shows that not all teenagers are trouble.”

Sophie has recently hooked up with new boy, Ben and the pair have decided that they will not have sex before marriage and begun attending church together. Brooke added:

“Corrie has moved away from the stereotypical Christian character.

“Ben is cool, sexy and really popular so the idea is that we can show people it’s OK to believe in something and you don’t have to follow the crowd.

“Deciding not to have sex is a very personal decision and we are not trying to tell everyone my age what to do.

“But I like that it shows there is more to a relationship than sex and these two don’t feel under pressure from their mates to do something they are not ready for.”

Gosh – Christianity in Corrie! What a revelation. And also a good kick in the teeth for the PC and “don’t want to offend brigade”. Excellent to hear the Name of Jesus on TV.

    Bring it on!
