Life as a soap star isn’t as glamorous as you might think, as two of the stars of Coronation Street have been revealing.

Fans of the BAFTA award-winning ITV soap will know that last week, we said goodbye to Charlie Condou’s character Marcus Dent, who was written out of the show after Condou resigned earlier this year in order to spend more time with his young family.

But while Charlie has admitted he will miss the show, he won’t miss the attention he gets from fans quite as much.

In a recent interview with The Daily Mirror newspaper, Condou has revealed that at times, he’s found the constant attention from fans of the soap to be a tad inconvenient…

He explained that one of the most inconvenient requests for an autograph came whilst he was having a wee, and even when he’s out and about with his young child, fans continually pester him.

However, he added: “I always make the time [for fans] because it only takes a minute or two, so it seems ridiculous not to.”

Charlie went on to say that he doesn’t want to sound ungrateful to fans, because as he pointed out, “Without an audience, an actor is nothing.”

Meanwhile, Condou’s co-star, Jennie McAlpine has revealed that it’s often hard going and tiring trying to juggle her career as an actress with helping her husband to run the couple’s restaurant.

Jennie, who plays Fiz Stape in the show, recently revealed that she is expecting her first child, however, despite still being on full speed until her maternity leave show exit, which we have previously reported will involve her on-screen mum Cilla (Wendi Peters) making a brief Corrie return, McAlpine insists that she feels “good” and “glowing”.

Of course, when the baby arrives and she has to incorporate sleepless nights into her daily routine, she might feel a tad differently, but for now, McAlpine remains confident that she will be able to fit it all in, explaining in a recent interview with The Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’m just so lucky that I can juggle both.

“Corrie is obviously my main  job and my priority. I’ve been there for fourteen years and I can’t imagine my life without it.”

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm & 8.30pm on ITV1 / ITV1 HD – Watch an interview with Jennie McAlpine, who plays Fiz Stape in the clip below;
