Coronation Street’s Fiz Stape is reportedly going to hand over her tot, Hope, to Roy and Hayley Cropper to adopt in the aftermath of her husbands suicide, The Daily Star reports today.
Fiz (Jenny McAlpine), who’s baby Hope was born 3 months prematurely the night of the tram crash, is arrested when her husbands killing spree comes to light, as an accomplice to murder.
Desperate not to let social services take her baby into care, Fiz decides letting the Croppers, Roy (David Neilson) and Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh), adopt her daughter is the only hope for Hope to stay safe. At first she accepts the prisons offer to let her have Hope with her inside a mother and baby unit, but after her cell mate commits suicide, Fiz decides this is not the place to raise a baby.
At this point, Fiz is convinced she will get a life sentance, and does not want that sort of life for her baby, so appeals to the Croppers to raise the child as their own. Fiz sobs to Roy: “I just want Hope to have a good life and I can’t give her that any more. I never want her to know who her real mum is and what I have done. I want her to grow up thinking she’s your daughter. I want you to promise me you’ll never tell her anything about me.”
All this comes after Fiz, unaware of her husbands killings, has lied for him and been an accomplice to fraud, making her look as guilty as him when the deaths of Charlotte, Joy and Colin are uncovered. Her brother Chesney (Sam Aston) tries to convincer her to change her mind, but an adamant Fiz tells him, “I’ve lied about the murders and I’ve lied about the money I stole from Colin’s mum. I’m going to be in prison for a long time and I don’t want Hope growing up in a place like this.”
